Introduction

The DeepSeek Harness (DSH) plugin ecosystem allows extending the operational capabilities of local applications. dsh-plugin-wps-office-next is a client plugin for WPS Office. It directly controls running WPS application windows on the local machine through COM interfaces, enabling data reading and writing, formatting adjustments, and file export. This differs from the office skill built into DSH (which is based on offline reading and writing); this plugin operates on the “currently opened window.”

Installation and Enabling

Installing the plugin does not require manually configuring environment variables or installing a WPS add-in, but it must meet the basic environment requirements.

  1. Environment Check

    • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 10 / 11
    • Software: WPS Office 12.1+ (64-bit)
    • Dependencies: Node.js ≥ 22.19, pnpm

    Replace <profile> with the profile name currently used by your DSH:

  1. Taking Effect
    The plugin is loaded when DSH starts. You must completely close and restart DSH for it to take effect.

Typical Usage

You can describe tasks to DSH in Chinese, and it will call the plugin to execute them:

  • Summary Analysis: Summarize the desktop file Sales Details.xlsx by region into a new worksheet, in descending order, and add a clustered column chart.
  • Layout Export: Make the header row of this table bold, freeze the first row, format numbers with thousands separators, then convert it to PDF in the same folder.
  • File Merging: Merge the first worksheets of all .xlsx files in this folder into one combined sheet.
  • Document Processing: Read the Word document I have open, replace all “Pending” with “Confirmed,” save a copy, and leave the original unchanged.
  • Automatic Generation: Create an 8-page PPT from this report’s outline, with one key point per page.
  • Batch Templating: Replace {Party A} and {Amount} in ContractTemplate.docx with data from this sheet, generate 30 files row by row, and export all of them as PDF.
  • Final Cleanup: Check which WPS files I currently have open, and save any unsaved ones to the desktop first.

Applicable Scenarios

This is suitable for scenarios that require directly manipulating local WPS windows, handling complex layouts, batch-generating documents, or creating data visualizations.

Precautions

  1. Privacy and Security: The plugin does not connect to the internet and does not send files to other locations. However, COM changes may not enter the undo stack; important files should be backed up first.
  2. Concurrency Limit: Only one program may operate on WPS at a time. Multiple DSH sessions or manual operations may interfere with each other.
  3. File Status: When closing a file that has never been saved, the plugin automatically discards it and reports a Warning; files with an open password are directly skipped (no dialog box is shown).
  4. Performance Issues: If a file is occupied or the network disconnects, opening it may be slow; a timeout only indicates unknown status and will not automatically close WPS.
  5. Known Unsupported Features
    • macOS/Linux/32-bit WPS are not supported.
    • Rounded corner radius (a WPS limitation), document properties, slicers, and Scene Manager are not supported.
    • The page number “start number” is not supported (only format and reorder are supported).
    • Landscape orientation and paper size cannot be set separately (they must be set together).
    • Offline reading is not supported; it must operate on running windows.
