Introduction¶
The DeepSeek Harness (DSH) desktop client (DSH Desktop) currently focuses on building backend capabilities and a plugin ecosystem. As for the front-end interaction experience, some users may be more accustomed to ChatGPT-style workflows such as quoting context, quickly asking follow-up questions, and modifying replies. The existing native interface has a relatively cumbersome interaction path when handling multi-turn conversation quotes and sidebar follow-up questions, and lacks intuitive control entry points.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-harness-chat-control is a plugin that provides a ChatGPT-like interaction experience for DSH Desktop. The project is maintained by developer 1985899182 and released under the MIT open-source license. Its core goal is to replicate two forms of ChatGPT conversation quoting while enabling smoother multi-session management through a built-in sidebar.
Core Features¶
This plugin mainly adds the following control capabilities:
* Main Conversation Quoting: Supports clicking “Quote” in the answer action bar, or selecting part of an answer and choosing “Add to Conversation”. The quoted content is retained as annotation capsules in the input box and does not pollute Markdown formatting in the main text.
* Native Annotation Capsules: Quoted content appears as capsules in the input box. Users can edit the question, remove the quote, and then decide whether to send it.
* Built-in Sidebar: Directly embeds and locks the SideChatView, transcript mapping, and styling of dsh-better-sidebar@0.24.1. It can be used even if Better Sidebar is not installed; if another version is installed, the sidebar implementation provided by this project remains in effect.
* Sidebar Conversation Quoting: Supports follow-up questions in the sidebar based on quoted content. The sidebar has independent model selection and a native conversation bar; the main session and sidebar session are mutually independent.
* Edit and Resend: Click the pencil button next to a user message to return to the native input box, modify the text, and send it. After sending, the new answer overwrites and is displayed in the original session location without creating a new duplicate session.
* Stop Answering: Reuses DSH’s native stop/send state; quoting and sidebar features do not intercept or duplicate native events.
Installation and Activation¶
Run the following command in Windows PowerShell. Before installation, make sure DSH Desktop is completely exited.
dsh plugin --profile web add --save-exact --allow-build=node-pty "git+https://github.com/1985899182/dsh-harness-chat-control.git#v0.3.1"
Note: If the dsh command is not in the system PATH, use the CLI path bundled with DSH Desktop to invoke it.
Typical Usage¶
- Main Conversation Quoting: Click “Quote” in the answer action bar, or select part of an answer and choose “Add to Conversation”. The quote appears on the left side of the input box. After users add their question and send it, the quoted content returns together with the new answer.
- Sidebar Conversation: Click the “Sidebar Ask” button, or select text and choose “Ask in Sidebar Chat”. The sidebar opens, and users can choose a model, enter a question, and send it. This operation takes place in an independent session and does not affect the main conversation.
- Edit and Resend: Click the pencil icon next to the sent user message, modify the text in the native input box, and send it again. The new answer overwrites the original location and does not generate a new session record.
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
- Version Compatibility: Must be compatible with DSH Desktop
0.11.0and DeepSeek Harness0.2.0-rc.2, and requires Node.js version>= 20. - Dependency Version: The plugin depends on
dsh-better-sidebar@0.24.1. If another version is installed locally, the plugin will use the built-in implementation. - Permissions and Security: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. Before installation, it is recommended to review the GitHub source code to confirm that the code logic meets expectations.
Summary¶
By replicating ChatGPT’s quoting and sidebar interaction patterns, this plugin fills a gap in the front-end operational experience of DeepSeek Harness Desktop. For developers who frequently quote context or conduct multi-turn follow-up questions, it can significantly improve operational efficiency within a single session.
