Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) provides plugin-based extensibility. When configuring model thinking effort in the Web UI, the native reasoning level panel uses a group of radio rows for selection. The dsh-effort-slider plugin watches this panel and replaces it with a draggable slider component, providing a more intuitive experience for switching effort levels.

Plugin Information

Name: dsh-effort-slider

This is a client-side plugin for DeepSeek Harness that adds a draggable reasoning effort slider supporting the Off, Low, High, and Max levels. It optimizes the selection interaction for reasoning effort without modifying the DSH core code.

Core Features

  • In-place replacement of native controls: Watches the reasoning level panel in the “model seat” dialog and replaces the native radio rows with a polished slider card.
  • Drag interaction: Supports dragging the slider to switch between the Off, Low, High, and Max levels. Release to apply, and the panel remains open.
  • Visual feedback:
    • At the Max level, a DeepSeek blue WebGL flame effect is displayed inside the track.
    • If the browser does not support WebGL2, it automatically falls back to a CSS glow effect.
  • State management: Automatically adapts to DSH’s dark/light themes; provides a “Restore Default” button to return to the follow-model state; provides a “Back” button to return to the main menu.
  • Integration compatibility: Does not send additional requests; after clicking the slider, it still follows the official DSH session flow (selectModel, default saving, etc.), only skipping the forced close after success.

Installation and Activation

Before installation, ensure that DeepSeek Harness is installed (the dsh command is available).

  1. Install the plugin (using the prebuilt package):
    dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/SmailPang/dsh-effort-slider/releases/download/v0.1.1/dsh-effort-slider-0.1.1.tgz
  1. Restart the service:
    After installation, restart the dsh web command and refresh the browser to apply the changes.

Usage Steps

  1. Open settings: In the input area of any session, click “model seat” and select “Reasoning Level / Effort” in the dialog.
  2. Switch levels: Drag the slider to the desired level (Off / Low / High / Max) and release to apply.
  3. Restore default: Click the “Restore Default” button in the bottom-right corner of the card to return to the “Follow Model” state.
  4. Return to menu: Click “Back” to return to the main model and thinking effort menu.
  5. View the effect: Drag the slider to the rightmost Max level and observe the blue flame effect inside the track.

Applicable Scenarios and Notes

  • Compatibility requirements:
    • DSH version: >= 0.2.0-rc.2
    • Host environment: Node >= 20
    • Browser environment: WebGL2 support is required (automatically falls back to a CSS glow when not supported).
  • Security: The plugin does not modify the DSH core code, and the browser interface is loaded by the official DSH Client Module. Please install it through official channels.
