Introduction

The philosophy behind DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” Handling code files and terminal commands in a pure chat interface usually requires switching contexts or using external tools. The dsh-ide-lite plugin integrates “Files” and “Terminal” tabs directly into the DSH WebUI conversation interface, providing developers with a lightweight local editing and execution environment.

Plugin Overview

dsh-ide-lite is a lightweight IDE plugin maintained by justarook1e. It injects file browsing, editing, agent change review, and integrated terminal capabilities into the WebUI conversation. The plugin is licensed under the MIT License.

Core Features

  • Workspace sidebar: Provides a project file tree (layer-by-layer loading, Git status coloring, .gitignore entries grayed out) and conversation history management (new, switch, pin, delete).
  • File browsing and editing: Supports syntax highlighting for 24 languages and Markdown rendering. Provides independent undo/redo stacks (only user edits can be undone), autosave, and manual saving with Ctrl+S.
  • Agent change review: Provides a line-level diff view. It uses a baseline mechanism: accepting a change establishes a new baseline, while rejecting it writes the baseline back to disk; rejecting a newly added file deletes it.
  • Large file support: Supports loading large file content on demand and preserves a fingerprint, avoiding situations where large file sizes prevent review.
  • Instant updates: Agent file modifications, additions, and deletions are synchronized to the interface in about 1.5 seconds; changes that only affect line endings (CRLF/LF) are not counted as edits.
  • Integrated terminal: Runs as an independent process and supports ANSI colors, progress bar redrawing, and command history. Terminal commands are not subject to Agent sandbox restrictions and are equivalent to the local machine terminal.
  • Run button: Supports executing the currently opened code file (such as .py, .js, .ts, .sh). It prefers local runtimes in the project (such as .venv or runtime\python\python.exe), and unsaved edits are saved before execution.

Installation and Enablement

Installation command:

pnpm dsh plugin --profile web add @justarook1e/dsh-ide-lite

Restart and refresh:
After installation is complete, restart pnpm dsh web and refresh the page in the browser with Ctrl+F5.

Desktop installation:
The desktop app has a separate desktop profile and cannot be installed using the CLI command above. Install the same package, @justarook1e/dsh-ide-lite, from the “Plugins” page in the left sidebar of the app.

Typical Usage

  1. Run code: Open a code file in the “Files” tab and click the run button in the toolbar to execute it.
  2. Terminal operations: In the “Terminal” tab, run complex commands such as npm run dev or docker compose up.
  3. Review changes: After an Agent modifies a file, select individual files or accept/reject all changes in the change list in the “Files” tab.

Notes

  • Version compatibility: Compatible with DSH dsh-v0.1.7-rc.2; the host region is compatible with 0.1.2-alpha.1 through 0.1.7-rc.2.
  • Beta status: Includes experimental features (such as undo/redo and autosave). Back up important data before use.
  • Permission differences: Terminal commands are not subject to Agent sandbox restrictions and are equivalent to the local machine terminal.
  • Documentation location: The plugin documentation is located in the developer’s local working copy and is not published with npm.

Summary

By integrating file editing, change review, and terminal capabilities, this plugin reduces the context-switching cost between DSH and external tools. For more details, see GitHub.
