Introduction¶
In the plugin-based ecosystem of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), solutions for ChatBI-type scenarios (such as database queries, MCP tool invocation, and API management) often rely on backend services. The dsh-chatbi plugin pushes this logic down to the client side. It uses a local runtime to handle database connections, MCP server interactions, and SQL/API tool registration, without requiring an additional Java backend deployment.
Core Positioning¶
The plugin is maintained by Huauauaa and released under the MIT License. It is a fully self-contained DSH client plugin focused on managing databases, MCP, APIs, and SQL tools.
Feature Overview¶
The plugin manages various tool configurations through local JSON storage. Core features include:
* Database connections: Supports SQLite operations via Node.js built-in node:sqlite; connections to other database types are stored only as metadata.
* MCP and API tools: Provides registration and invocation capabilities for MCP servers and API tools, based on HTTP POST or fetch.
* SQL tools: Maps templates to the chatbi_sql_execute interface.
* Agent tools: Provides agents with chatbi_status (status summary), chatbi_sql_execute (execute SQL), chatbi_mcp_call, chatbi_api_call, and the chatbi_list_* tool family.
* Data storage: All configuration data is stored locally at $DSH_HOME/chatbi/store.json.
* UI: Built with Tailwind CSS v4 and integrated into the DSH settings page.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before installing, ensure the environment meets the Node.js version requirement (Node ≥ 22).
Run the following command in the plugin directory:
dsh plugin --profile web add ./
Once installation is complete, you can find the ChatBI configuration entry in the DSH client settings.
Configuration and Usage¶
Go to Settings → ChatBI:
* Data directory: Defaults to $DSH_HOME/chatbi, and can be overridden in settings.
* Tabs: Provides five views: Overview, Databases, MCP Tools, API Tools, and SQL Tools.
* Data location: All tool configuration files are stored at $DSH_HOME/chatbi/store.json.
Agent Tool Usage¶
The plugin registers the following Agent tools for agent invocation:
* chatbi_status: Retrieves summary information from local storage.
* chatbi_sql_execute: Executes SQL statements (SQLite supported).
* chatbi_mcp_call: Invokes registered MCP tools.
* chatbi_api_call: Invokes registered API tools.
* chatbi_list_*: Lists MCP, SQL, or API tools.
Notes and Limitations¶
- Driver dependencies: MySQL/PostgreSQL connections are only stored locally. If you need to execute live SQL, install and configure the appropriate driver yourself (not built into the plugin).
- MCP invocation assumptions: Invoking MCP tools assumes the configured server endpoint is HTTP and supports a generic JSON body.
- Initialization: MCP, SQL, and API tools must be initialized by editing
store.jsonor through upcoming extended UI features.
Verification and Build¶
To verify locally, you can run the following commands:
npm install --legacy-peer-deps
npm test
npm run build
Conclusion¶
dsh-chatbi is suitable for developers who need to manage data sources and toolchains directly on the DSH client side. For more information, visit the SkillHub plugin directory or view the GitHub repository.
