Introduction¶
When using DeepSeek Harness (DSH), approval requests may be overlooked due to window switching or divided attention. dsh-approval-chime is a plugin for handling auditory feedback: when an approval request appears, it synthesizes a sound prompt in the background and displays a notification popup if the window is not in the foreground.
Core Features¶
- Approval prompt tone: Produces sound only when an approval request appears; does not change approval behavior.
- Built-in tones: Provides wind chime, bell, and beep tones; all are synthesized live with WebAudio and do not load external files.
- Local audio import: Supports importing local audio as a tone (limit 5MB, up to 50 files).
- Per-session independent settings: Each session can be muted individually or assigned a specific tone and volume.
- Silent-state self-check: Displays the number of triggers and the last trigger time to confirm the plugin is working.
- Windows system notifications: Displays a real notification when the window is not in the foreground (disabled by default).
- Test notification feature: The test button validates the notification chain and has a 3-second cooldown.
Installation and Enablement¶
Use the official installation command to add the plugin to DSH.
dsh plugin add https://codeload.github.com/Cloudto1/dsh-approval-chime/tar.gz/refs/heads/main
After installation is complete, restart DSH. Go to Settings → Notification Reminders and confirm that the section for this plugin appears. Trigger an approval request; the prompt tone should be audible.
Usage¶
- Configure tone, volume, and switches in Settings → Notification Reminders.
- Click the Preview button to unlock the browser’s autoplay restrictions.
- Click the Test Notification button to verify whether the notification chain is working (installation must be completed first).
- In the approval list, click the bell icon next to a session title to mute that session individually.
Configuration and Storage¶
The plugin’s settings are located in the approval-chime: section of $DSH_HOME/settings.yaml.
| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
enabled |
boolean | true |
After disabling, no sound is produced. |

nativeToast |
boolean | false |

Per-session settings are stored in the <DSH_HOME>/approval-chime/sessions.json file and are not included in the global settings document. The Windows notification feature must first run the deploy/native-toast/install.ps1 script to register it.
Notes¶
- Does not participate in the approval workflow: The plugin does not register an
approval/requestlistener and does not change the approval decision path. - Test notification mechanism: The key format for test notifications is
test:<ms>:<n>; it can never approve any approval. - Environment requirements: The Windows notification feature requires the protocol to be installed and registered locally, and the test notification feature must be verified on a real device.
