Introduction¶
The design concept of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing agents or debugging code, developers often need to pass local files, code snippets, or log files as context to the model. The DSH Drop plugin addresses the limited attachment experience in the input box by adding drag-and-drop and preview capabilities to the web and desktop clients.
Core Features¶
DSH Drop mainly provides the following capabilities:
- Drag-and-drop and paste support: Supports dragging files or folders directly into the DeepSeek Harness web page or desktop application, and also supports pasting files from the clipboard.
- Unified preview bar: Images and files share a single preview bar for easier management.
- On-demand reference addition: File paths are attached to the input box only when a message is sent, keeping the draft clean.
- Native attachment support: Supports images such as PNG, JPEG, WebP, and GIF as native attachments.
- File and folder references: Supports references to PDF, video, audio, and text files, as well as folder references (format:
@path/to/folder/). - Complement to DSH Viewer: This plugin complements DSH Viewer, which is responsible for displaying file content from the model side to users.
Installation and Activation¶
Web Environment¶
In the web environment, this plugin depends on pnpm in the system PATH, and the Node version must be 22 or 24. After installing the precompiled tarball package, restart the web side:
dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/Crosery/dsh-drop/releases/latest/download/dsh-drop.tgz
Desktop Application¶
In the desktop application, command-line installation is not available, so use the graphical interface:
- Open the application menu and go to Plugins → Add plugin.
- Paste the release download URL:
https://github.com/Crosery/dsh-drop/releases/latest/download/dsh-drop.tgz
- Restart the application to load the plugin.
Typical Usage¶
After installation, use it with the following steps:
- Open a session.
- Drag a file or folder into the page, or paste it in a blank area of the page.
- Click a card in the preview bar to preview the content or remove the file (dragging the same file twice adds it only once).
- Enter request text, then press Enter or click the send button. At this point, the file path is added to the message as a reference (such as
@path/to/file).
Use Cases and Notes¶
Use cases: Suitable for developers who frequently need to reference local files, logs, or code snippets in conversations, as well as users who want to keep the input box clean.
Notes:
- Web dependencies: The web environment must have
pnpminstalled and meet the Node version requirements, otherwise installation will fail. - Model tools: This plugin does not add new tools to the model. Non-image files are converted to path references (
@path), and the model must explicitly call tools to read file content. - Folder limitations: Folder references are limited by file count, total size, individual file size limits, and nesting depth. If the limits are exceeded, the upload will be rejected as a whole with a prompt.
- Duplicate installation: If there is already a local patch mount for
@crosery/dsh-drop, do not install it again.
Summary¶
By providing a unified drag-and-drop experience and preview bar, DSH Drop simplifies the file input process in DSH. It does not change the model’s capabilities, but improves the way developers interact with files. To view the source code or more details, visit the GitHub repository.
