Introduction

DeepSeek Harness stores conversations as append-only logs. A standard “Recall” operation only resets the context; the state of artifact files does not change accordingly. dsh-retrace binds conversations to their artifact versions, ensuring that every backtrack is legitimate and does not corrupt the log structure or create token-meter pairing debt.

Plugin Overview

  • Name: dsh-retrace
  • Positioning: A DeepSeek Harness client plugin supporting Web and Desktop clients
  • Core Value: Provides Recall (undo), Resend (retransmit), and Regenerate (regenerate) for conversations, along with Artifact version management and rollback capabilities
  • Maintainer: yamingmou
  • License: MIT

Core Features

The plugin provides three basic operations and a version management mechanism in the conversation interface:

  1. Recall (↩)

    • Hover over any assistant reply or the line below a user message to trigger it.
    • A confirmation dialog is shown before the operation (this is a destructive operation that removes the message and everything after it).
    • After confirmation, the plugin first pauses the currently running Agent through the official API and waits (with a timeout).
    • Removes the current turn (including the input text, assistant reply, and tool-call lines).
    • The input text is echoed back into the editor, allowing the user to rephrase or edit it.
  2. Resend (✎)

    • Hover over the line below any user message to trigger it.
    • The main meaning is “restart from here”: reset this message and everything after it, and continue the conversation on a new timeline.
    • If the range is too large to rewrite in place, the system provides an alternative (only modify the text of this message, preserving subsequent content).
  3. Regenerate (↻)

    • Hover over any assistant reply to trigger it.
    • Hides that reply and everything after it, and resends the original Prompt, allowing the Agent to answer again.
  4. Checkpoints & Artifact Rollback

    • Every backtrack is recorded as a Checkpoint, and a Checkpoints tab is provided in the conversation view to display nested history in an outline.
    • Supports Artifact Rollback, with options to roll back only context, only Artifact, or both, and supports Dry-run preview.
    • Supports one-click jump from a Checkpoint to a specified location in the conversation.

Installation and Activation

Command-Line Installation

The dsh CLI for DeepSeek Harness is required. After installation, the DSH application must be restarted (the currently running process does not support hot reload).

dsh plugin --profile desktop add dsh-retrace

Graphical Interface Installation

If there is no command-line environment, you can install the community plugin market plugin, then find and install it from the settings:

dsh plugin --profile desktop add dshmarket

After installation, go to Settings -> Plugin Market, find dsh-retrace, and click Install.

Typical Usage

  • Recall and Regenerate: Hover over an assistant reply and click ↩ or ↻.
  • Resend: Hover over a user message and click ✎.

Notes

  • Restart Requirement: The DSH application must be restarted after installation for the changes to take effect.
  • Legacy Markers: For sessions that already contain legacy single-segment markers, known design debt exists. Before running /compact, it is recommended to run the accompanying check and fix --remove-markers commands to clean these markers; otherwise, the host’s own pre-compaction self-check will block the compaction operation.
  • License: This plugin is licensed under the MIT License.
