Introduction¶
In DeepSeek Harness (DSH) conversations, the assistant often outputs Linux paths, such as /home/user/project.pptx. Without a tool, these paths cannot be directly clicked or operated on. Generic “open path” plugins usually invoke Linux’s xdg-open, which cannot launch Windows applications such as Office or WPS.
The dsh-wsl-open plugin solves this problem. It runs in a Windows environment, uses CSS Highlight to identify absolute Linux paths in text, converts them to Windows paths with wslpath, and invokes native Windows commands to open files or folders.
Core Features¶
This plugin mainly provides the following capabilities:
- Path highlighting: Uses CSS Highlight to mark absolute Linux paths in assistant text without rewriting the React DOM.
- Path mapping: Uses
wslpath -wto convert Linux paths into paths that Windows can recognize (for example,\\wsl$\distro\...orC:\...). - File opening: Invokes the system default application to open files via
cmd.exe /c start. - Folder opening: Opens the corresponding folder via
explorer.exe. - Access restrictions: Only the following paths may be opened: the home directory, the session workspace,
/mnt/c/Users, and/mnt/d/Users. Non-WSL hosts skip the open operation.
Installation and Setup¶
Use the official installation command to add the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:173787247/dsh-wsl-open
After installation, restart the dsh web service and refresh the page to use it.
Typical Usage¶
- In the chat, prompt the Agent: please write a file to
/home/<you>/...(for example, a.pptxfile). - Wait for the assistant to return a reply containing that path.
- In the reply text, find the path with a dotted underline.
- Click the path.
- Windows will invoke the default application to open the file.
Use Cases and Limitations¶
- Version requirement: The DeepSeek Harness (dsh) version must be ≥ 0.1.2.
- Target environment: WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) environments.
- Path restrictions: For security reasons, the plugin only permits specific directories. If a path is not on the allowlist, the plugin performs no action.
- Ecosystem positioning: This plugin is part of the
dsh-wsl-kitsuite. - Feature differentiation:
- Primarily for opening files or folders.
- If you need to launch Linux applications, use
dsh-wsl-launch. - If you need to open HTTP(S) URLs, use
dsh-wsl-browser.
- Environment configuration: It is not currently configured for Cloud Flash or Agent Teams.
Conclusion¶
dsh-wsl-open is a practical tool for directly working with the WSL file system from the Windows side. It makes path access intuitive through browser interactions. For more details and the source code, visit the GitHub repository.
