Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture and aims to enrich agent capabilities through extensible components. In default chat, AI replies are often limited to text, Markdown code blocks, or static tables. Users need to manually copy and paste data, calculate in their heads, or fill out forms field by field, which increases interaction cost.

The dsh-genui plugin turns this one-way text output into a two-way interactive interface. It allows DSH to directly render UI elements such as charts, forms, and calculators in the conversation, and user clicks or inputs flow back into the conversation stream for the model to continue processing.

Plugin Positioning

dsh-genui is a client plugin for DeepSeek Harness, maintained by developer lhuans and licensed under the MIT license. It transforms model-returned instructions into visual interactive components by injecting rendering logic into the DSH frontend.

Core Features

The plugin supports converting natural language instructions directly into various UI components:

  • Interactive charts: Supports bar charts, line charts, pie charts, donut charts, radar charts, gauges, funnel charts, scatter charts, and waterfall charts.
  • Form controls: Text boxes, text areas, dropdown menus, radios, checkboxes, switches, number steppers, date pickers, search boxes, and transfer.
  • Mini apps: Calculator, BMI calculator, currency converter, and to-do list.
  • Data display and layout: Tables with pagination and search, tree view, timeline, breadcrumb navigation, tabs, accordion panels, cards, carousel, and tooltip.
  • Multi-turn interaction: Interaction events can flow back to the model, supporting complex “click-continue” workflows.

Installation and Activation

The installation process requires that environment dependencies are ready.

Prerequisites

  1. Install Node.js.
  2. Install pnpm (DSH uses pnpm to manage plugins). You can install it with corepack enable or npm i -g pnpm, then open a new terminal and verify the version.
  3. Ensure the DeepSeek Harness service is running (by default at http://127.0.0.1:3080).

Installation Steps

Run the following command in the terminal to add the plugin to the web configuration file:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-genui

After installation, you must restart DSH for the plugin to take effect. Restart steps:

  1. Press Ctrl+C in the terminal running DSH to stop the service.
  2. Start it again: dsh web.
  3. Refresh the browser page.
  4. Start a new conversation.

Verify Installation

In a new chat window, enter the following instruction:

Generate a calculator

If a usable calculator interface appears in the conversation, the plugin has been activated successfully.

Typical Usage

There is no need to learn special syntax or write JSON; simply describe your requirements in natural language.

Generate a chart:

“Chart revenue for the last three quarters as bars, and mark year-over-year growth”

Build a form:

“Make a time-off request form with leave type, start and end date, days, and reason”

Create a calculation tool:

“Build a BMI calculator — enter height and weight, get the result”

Create a comparison table:

“Put these options in a comparison table: price, timeline, risk”

Use Cases and Notes

This plugin is suitable for scenarios that require quickly displaying data trends, collecting structured input, or building simple interactive tools.

Notes:
* The plugin depends on a Node.js and pnpm environment.
* After installation, you must restart the DSH process; otherwise, the interface will not update.
* GenUI authoring guidance is enabled by default, and the previous selection is remembered after restart.

Summary

dsh-genui reduces the operational cost for DSH users in data processing and form completion by transforming static text into interactive components. It preserves DSH’s original plugin-based ecosystem approach and extends frontend rendering capabilities without modifying source code.
