Introduction

The design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” During multi-turn conversations and tool execution, after the Root Agent (root agent) completes a round of operations, it often lacks an independent, background review mechanism to validate its findings or output. The dsh-shadow-mind plugin provides DSH with a standalone bundle that launches fresh background Shadow Agents after eligible Root Agent turns, validates their structured findings, relays accepted reports back to the Root session, and exposes configuration and evidence through the Web UI.

What Is This

This is a versioned DeepSeek Harness bundle independently maintained by whutzefengxie-ops. It uses the DeepSeek Harness extension mechanism to handle runtime, sessions, subagents, permissions, and persistence. The plugin is designed to address the lack of automatic review after the Root Agent executes specific tools by launching independent Shadow Agents for background review and feeding results back to the Root session.

Core Features

  • Background agent launch: After the Root Agent completes an eligible tool-use turn, fresh background Shadow Agents are automatically launched.
  • Structured validation: Structured validation is performed on findings generated by Shadow Agents.
  • Report relay: Reports that pass validation are relayed back to the Root session.
  • Web UI exposure: Configuration items and runtime evidence are exposed in the Web UI.
  • Real-time scheduling: Real-time scheduling settings are provided, including timeouts, report batching, etc.
  • Markdown definitions: Markdown-format Shadow definition files are supported.

Installation and Enablement

Before installing, ensure the DSH version matches. The current latest version v0.1.6 requires DSH 0.2.0-rc.2.

  1. Install the plugin:
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh@0.2.0-rc.2 plugin --profile web add github:whutzefengxie-ops/dsh-shadow-mind#v0.1.6
  1. Restart the profile: Restart the selected profile after installation.
  2. Verify installation: Run the following command to check whether the configuration is effective. The output should include shadow-mind-runtime and tool-shadow-mind.
    dsh --profile web --dump-config
  1. Remove the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web remove @whutzefengxie-ops/dsh-shadow-mind

Typical Usage

  1. Configure definition files:
Plugin definition files are stored in $DSH_HOME/shadow-minds/*.md. An example minimal deterministic acceptance definition is as follows:
    ---
    id: acceptance-reviewer
    name: Acceptance Reviewer
    enabled: true
    debug: false
    activation_probability: 1
    active_for_models:
      - '*'
    tools: []
    capture: since-compaction
    context: minimal
    think_first: true
    ---

Review the completed task. If there is a concrete defect or missing requirement, return a concise report with verdict `challenge` or `gap` and only rendered sequence numbers in `refs`. Return `silent` when the review applies but adds nothing actionable, or `not_relevant` when it does not apply.
  1. Debug run:
Use the zero-dependency debug tool to trace a specific session or run:
    node tools/shadow-debug.mjs trace <childSessionId|runId|rootSessionId>

Applicable Scenarios and Notes

  • Version compatibility: v0.1.6 is compatible only with DSH 0.2.0-rc.2. Older plugin versions require corresponding DSH versions.
  • Source code security: GitHub installation uses the committed lib/ directory. The package does not have a prepare script and does not require pnpm allowBuilds authorization.
  • Local storage: Shadow definition files are stored locally in Markdown format under $DSH_HOME/shadow-minds/*.md.
  • Runtime mechanism: Runtime, sessions, subagents, and so on all use the DeepSeek Harness extension mechanism.

Conclusion

This plugin is suitable for scenarios that require independent review and validation after Root Agent execution. For more configuration details and examples, refer to the GitHub repository.
