Introduction

The DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web plugin system allows users to customize interfaces and interactions. When using the Web client, the reasoning effort selection is often hidden inside the model popover, making switching less direct. dsh-reasoning-ruler extracts this selector from the model popover and integrates it into the composer area, while also polishing the interaction details of the model selector.

Plugin Overview

This is a DSH Web plugin maintained by developer zisen123. It extracts reasoning effort control from the model popover and turns it into a minimal horizontal line in the composer. It also supports remembering levels by model and optimizes the model selector’s list display and interaction logic.

Core Features

  1. Minimal Ruler Line
Displays a 2px horizontal line in the composer area. When a level is selected, the horizontal line turns into a sliding vertical line. The horizontal line has a visual shape that is low on the left and high on the right, and on hover a ghost vertical preview line and tooltip appear.

  2. Per-Model Level Memory
Uses localStorage to remember the last reasoning level setting for each model. When you switch to that model, the system automatically restores the previous level selection.

  3. Optimistic Switching
Clicking a level or the model selector updates the UI immediately (optimistic update), while the backend converges asynchronously through RPC. If the backend request fails, it automatically rolls back to the previous state.

  4. Model Selector Refinements
    - Opens directly to the full model list, without navigating through the root panel.
    - The list is fully expanded, without scrolling.
    - Hides the transient “Refreshing model list” state.
    - Automatically closes the popover after a model is selected.

  5. Seat Deduplication
The model seat bar only displays the model name and no longer shows the reasoning level; the native “Reasoning level” row inside the popover is also hidden.

Install and Enable

Use the one-click DSH install command:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-reasoning-ruler

After installation, wait for hot reload to finish, then refresh the browser to apply the changes; no need to restart DSH.

Typical Usage

After installing and refreshing, a new horizontal line appears in the composer area. Click the line to view and select a reasoning level. When you switch models, the system automatically applies the previously saved level setting for that model. When opening the model selector, the list expands directly, and clicking a model name completes the selection and closes the popover.

Notes

  • Unofficial release: This plugin is not developed by DeepSeek and has no affiliation with DeepSeek.
  • Experimental dependencies: Some experience optimizations rely on DOM details of DSH Web (such as hashed class suffixes and text matching). If a DSH upgrade changes these DOM structures, the plugin may stop working. However, the core level selection logic uses the official slot / ModelDirectory API, so it is not affected. If it stops working, you can file an issue in the repository.

Summary

With dsh-reasoning-ruler, controlling reasoning effort is simplified to a single horizontal line, and the model selector becomes smoother. See below for the plugin directory link and source repository.
