Introduction

In the development of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), directly invoking large models often struggles to handle tasks that require multi-step reasoning, dynamic planning, or complex validation. The xby-sequentialthinking plugin introduces a sequential thinking protocol, providing workflows with a structured problem-solving approach. It breaks complex problems into manageable steps and supports iterative optimization, path backtracking, and hypothesis validation during the reasoning process.

Plugin Positioning

This is an MCP server implementing a sequential thinking protocol, running as a workflow plugin for DeepSeek Harness (DSH). The plugin maintainer is xby-skill, and the license is MIT. The plugin runs as a module, with the main file located at ./dist/index.js.

Core Features

The plugin mainly provides two core capabilities:

  1. set_xby_apikey
Sets an API key in the conversation. This operation is automatically persisted and remains valid after a process restart.

  2. sequentialthinking
A tool for dynamic and reflective problem solving. It allows the analytical process to evolve flexibly, with each thinking step able to build on, question, or revise previous insights. It supports adjusting the number of thoughts, branching or backtracking, generating solution hypotheses, and validating them based on the chain of thought.

Installation and Enablement

Use the following command to install the plugin (using the web profile as an example):

dsh plugin --profile web add github:xby_skill/xby-sequentialthinking

After installation, the plugin is loaded as a module.

Usage

When calling the sequentialthinking tool in a workflow, it is recommended to follow these steps:

  1. Initial Estimate: First estimate the number of thinking steps needed, while remaining flexible.
  2. Iterative Reasoning: Each thought (thought) can be routine analysis, questioning of previous decisions, a realization that more analysis is needed, or the generation and validation of hypotheses.
  3. Dynamic Adjustment: Based on current progress, adjust total_thoughts at any time, or mark is_revision and revises_thought to backtrack and revise, or use branch_from_thought to explore branches.
  4. Termination Condition: When satisfied with the solution and confident that no further thinking is needed, set next_thought_needed to false.

Configuration and Prerequisites

The plugin uses the module type (Type: module) and depends on external API services. Before use, register on the Xiaobenyang Official Website, obtain an API key, and then set it using set_xby_apikey. The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process; it is recommended to review the source code and license before use.

Summary

The plugin adds structured reasoning capability to DSH, making it suitable for handling complex tasks involving planning, design, or multi-step validation.
