The design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing or debugging models, you sometimes don’t need persistent session records; you just want to quickly test an idea or have a temporary conversation. dsh-temp-chat is a lightweight component that directly addresses this use case.
What This Is¶
dsh-temp-chat is a temporary chat sprite designed specifically for DSH. It is maintained by winditer and provided under the MIT License.
This plugin floats a whale icon over your DSH page (based on the official DeepSeek favicon). Click it to open a lightweight, draggable chat window. By default, it requires no configuration and uses DSH’s model settings; it also supports independently configuring an OpenAI-compatible endpoint. All conversations are stored temporarily and do not pollute DSH’s session history.
Core Features¶
Active Sprite¶
The sprite is a translucent whale icon that swims slowly. Its position is persistent: if you drag it to any position and restart DSH, it remains in that position. The sprite interface automatically switches between Chinese and English based on DSH’s language settings.
Instant Chat¶
- Click the sprite to open the chat window.
- Drag the title bar to move the window.
- Press the
—key to minimize it back to the sprite. - Supports
Enterto send a message andShift+Enterto insert a line break. - Hover over a message and click
📋to copy that single message.
Zero Configuration and Customization¶
- Default mode: Uses the provider and model configured in the current DSH session, with no API Key required.
- Custom endpoint mode: In the chat window settings, uncheck “Follow session defaults” to fill in a custom API address, API Key, and model name.
- Streaming output: Supports true streaming output. Host routing fetches streaming responses via polling, while custom endpoints use native SSE.
Installation and Enabling¶
Installation requires DSH to have a web or desktop profile.
dsh plugin --profile desktop add dsh-temp-chat
After installation, restart DSH. A whale sprite will appear in the bottom-right corner of the page.
Configuration and Usage¶
Basic Operations¶
- Drag the sprite to an appropriate position.
- Click the sprite to open the chat window.
- Type and send a message in the window.
- Click the
⚙icon in the window title bar to open the settings menu.
Configuration Notes¶
In the ⚙ settings menu:
* Follow session defaults: When enabled, automatically uses the model configuration of the current DSH session; when disabled, fill in the provider, API address, API Key, and model name below.
* reasoning: Optional reasoning_effort parameter (high / medium / low) for compatibility with certain models.
Security Notes¶
- Default routing: No credentials are sent; it reuses DSH’s configuration.
- Custom mode: The API Key is stored only in the browser’s
localStorage, is not written to disk, and is not transmitted to any service other than the target endpoint. - Data privacy: Chat history exists only in memory and disappears after you close the plugin or clear it manually. It is not written to DSH’s session history.
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
- Suitable for: DSH users and model developers who need to quickly test prompts or have temporary conversations.
- Environment requirements: DSH must support a
webordesktopprofile. - Source code review: We recommend inspecting the source code and license before installation to ensure it complies with your usage policies.
Summary¶
dsh-temp-chat provides a plug-and-play, privacy-safe temporary chat tool that does not interfere with the main session. Through a floating window, it combines the convenience of zero configuration with the flexibility of custom endpoints, making it suitable for quick interactions in day-to-day development.
