DeepSeek Harness Web provides underlying capabilities for agent development, but the states during task execution (thinking, waiting, tool calls, etc.) are usually implicit. dsh-companion is a locally running desktop companion and task-status overlay that intuitively visualizes the progress of long-running tasks through character animations and status bubbles.

What This Is

Local state-aware desktop companion and task-status overlay for DeepSeek Harness Web.

Core Features

  1. Perceives real task states: distinguishes idle, thinking, tool calls, waiting for confirmation, completion, and failure, rather than simply looping decorative animations.
  2. Responsive character interactions: supports dragging, resizing, click responses, five-minute break animations, ten-minute long-task animations, and completion bubbles; work, completed, and idle dialogue lines can be edited.
  3. Optional billing integration: after installing dsh-billing, it automatically reads its session projection and displays current turn/session cost, token usage, quota progress, and unpriced reminders.
  4. Runs locally and protects privacy: does not read prompts, replies, tool parameters, file contents, or API keys.

Installation and Activation

Before installing, ensure the environment meets the following requirements:

  • Node.js: >= 22.19
  • DeepSeek Harness: compatible with 0.1.0-rc.6 through rc.8, 0.1.1-rc.1 through rc.2, and 0.1.2-rc.1

Install the release version with the following command:

dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/Wanbinyu/dsh-companion/releases/download/v0.1.12/dsh-companion-0.1.12.tgz

After installation, start Harness Web to use it.

Usage

  • Move: drag the character to adjust its position; after it is focused, use the arrow keys for precise movement, and hold Shift to increase speed.
  • Interact: clicking the character plays a short feedback animation and shows a bubble; while in rest, clicking wakes it immediately.
  • Settings: click the gear to adjust size (80–140 px), UI accent color, status bubbles, and billing information.
  • Position management: click “Return to bottom-right corner” to clear the custom position.

Notes

  1. Unofficial plugin: this is an unofficial community plugin and has no affiliation or endorsement from official DeepSeek.
  2. Asset license: character bitmap assets are not automatically covered by the repository’s MIT license.
  3. Privacy boundary: the plugin retains only status, turn, tool name, time, and short error codes; it does not save or display user prompts, model replies, tool parameters, API keys, request headers, full error messages, workspace file contents, or external telemetry identifiers.
