Preface¶
In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Web UI, agents usually interact with users through text and lack visual feedback. Petween is a middleware plugin designed to address this issue. It allows developers to use a small number of static image assets and generate rich animated effects through programmatic algorithms, transforming static agent avatars into expressive and interactive animated “pets.”
What Is It¶
Petween is a DSH Web UI pet plugin maintained by Traveritas. It is positioned as an agent pet animation middleware with a paper-animation style. It does not rely on a large preset animation library. Instead, it uses a Motion Engine to process input images, automatically generates comic-style transition and loop animations, and switches animations according to the actual runtime state of the Agent.
Core Features¶
The plugin mainly includes the following capabilities:
- Low resource requirements: It works with a small set of images. It includes six state slots: idle, thinking, working, waiting, success, and error. Missing states can automatically fall back.
- Animation generation: It supports comic-style transition animations (such as Comic Pop, Soft, Jelly, and Celebrate) and state loop animations (such as Bounce, Sway, and Breathing).
- True alignment: It provides Anchor-based true alignment, ensuring that the character’s feet do not teleport when switching images. Squash & Stretch is performed around the ground anchor.
- State tracking: It automatically switches poses and animation expressions based on the Agent state (idle, active, waiting, success, and error).
- Interaction and persistence: It supports dragging, scaling, position persistence, click interaction, and particle effects.
- Visual editing: It provides a Timeline Engine and a visual timeline editor, supporting management of custom animation tracks, keyframes, and events.
- Ecosystem extension: It provides Motion Pack and Pet Package features, supporting export and sharing of custom animations. It also provides auxiliary plugin extension services, supporting animation library registration, stage snapshot subscription, and more.
Installation and Activation¶
Since the plugin has not been published to npm, it must be installed from source:
# 1. 克隆仓库
git clone https://github.com/Traveritas/petween.git
cd petween
# 2. 安装依赖并构建(必须在安装前构建)
pnpm install
pnpm run build
# 3. 安装插件
dsh plugin --profile web add link:/path/to/petween
# 4. 重启 dsh web 生效
Typical Usage¶
In the DSH Web UI, go to the Petween card on the settings page to quickly enable or disable the pet and adjust the overall scale. Clicking “Open Full Editor” on the card opens the standalone editor page in a new tab.
You can also access http://127.0.0.1:3080/petween-editor/ directly (the port depends on the DSH web configuration).
If you want to test without touching the real configuration, you can build the project and then double-click preview/index.html to open the standalone preview page.
Notes¶
- The plugin README currently needs to be updated.
- It has not been published to npm, so you cannot directly use
dsh plugin add petween. You must clone it from GitHub and install it from source. - SVG is not supported. Only image files can be decoded and displayed.
- When editing the same configuration simultaneously in multiple browser tabs, the default mechanism is Last-Write-Wins.
- When the version is expired, write requests will return a 409 error.
Summary¶
Petween lowers the barrier to adding visual feedback to DSH agents through programmatic animation technology. It provides a complete toolchain for animation editing and sharing, making it suitable for developers who want to enhance the interactive experience of agents.
