Introduction

In DeepSeek Harness (DSH) use cases, prompts often need repeated refinement. Manual rewrites can easily lose the original intent, while asking the model to generate directly can easily take over the conversation. The dsh-prompt-refine plugin provides a lightweight “patch” approach: it intercepts user input before sending and offers concrete improvement suggestions based on context.

Positioning

This is a DSH plugin maintained by sojo-negai, focused on fine-tuning prompts before model inference. It does not advocate full rewrites; instead, it leverages context awareness to identify gaps in the input and provide patches.

Core Features

The plugin adds a ✨ button to the left of the send button. Upon clicking, it:

  1. Reads the draft content in the current input box and the recent conversation history.
  2. Calls the model configured by the user (automatically reads agent-default-model from settings.yaml).
  3. Opens a modal listing 3 suggestions in the form of “issue + patch”.
  4. Allows the user to select the desired suggestions and preview the merged prompt result in real time.
  5. Fills the selected patches into the input box, but does not automatically trigger sending.

Installation and Activation

1. Install Dependencies

Navigate to the target profile directory (default is the web profile) and install with pnpm:

cd ~/.dsh/profiles/web
pnpm add dsh-prompt-refine

2. Activate the Plugin

After installation, add the plugin name to the dsh.profile.bundles array in package.json, then restart DSH.

{
  "dsh": {
    "profile": {
      "bundles": [
        "dsh-prompt-refine"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Usage

  1. Enter a prompt in the input box, then click the ✨ button to the left of the send button.
  2. The plugin opens a suggestion list, showing elements missing from the current input (such as scope, format, constraint, etc.).
  3. Select the suggestions to adopt, and a real-time preview of the merged prompt is displayed below.
  4. Click “Adopt N and Fill In” to write the result into the input box.
  5. Press Esc, click the overlay, or click “Skip” to close the modal.

Notes

  • No configuration required: v0.1 does not require additional configuration; it automatically reads agent-default-model from ~/.dsh/settings.yaml for analysis.
  • Preserve original text: The plugin recommends keeping the user’s original wording and applying patch-style changes only to missing parts; it does not take over sending.
  • Version compatibility: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process; ensure the source code and license comply with your usage requirements.

Conclusion

dsh-prompt-refine is suitable for developers who need to quickly iterate prompts in DSH while preserving the original intent and polishing details. By clicking the button to obtain context-aware suggestions, it can effectively reduce repeated debugging time.
