Introduction

The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing agents, if you need to call the GitHub API frequently (such as reading code, creating Issues, or managing Pull Requests), writing instructions directly in the Prompt or implementing them via code can introduce maintenance costs. dsh-github-toolkit provides a ready-made solution by encapsulating GitHub operations through 18 predefined tool functions and managing sensitive credentials via a Web interface.

Plugin Overview

This is a GitHub toolkit plugin designed for DeepSeek Harness and maintained by developer QDchuan. It includes 18 github_* tools for agents, along with a Web settings page. A key feature of this plugin is that it stores PATs in DSH’s credential store rather than hard-coding them in configuration files, ensuring security and taking effect without restarting.

Core Features

  • 18 Agent tools: cover scenarios such as authentication, repositories, files, Issues, Pull Requests, searching, and CI checks.
  • Web settings page: configure PAT and default parameters in the browser interface without terminal operations.
  • Credential security: tokens are resolved from the DSH credential store by reference, and configuration files do not contain plaintext secrets.
  • Read/write access control: use a switch to control the registration of write tools, preventing agents from accidentally performing destructive operations.

Tool List

The plugin provides the following 18 tools, divided into read-only and write-operation categories:

  • Authentication and status: github_auth_status
  • Repositories and files: github_get_repository, github_read_file, github_write_file
  • Search: github_search
  • Issues: github_list_issues, github_get_issue, github_create_issue, github_comment, github_update_issue
  • Pull Requests: github_list_pull_requests, github_get_pull_request, github_create_pull_request, github_create_review
  • Code and branches: github_list_commits, github_list_branches, github_get_checks
  • Generic interface: github_api

Installation and Activation

Use the following command to install the plugin into the Web Profile:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-github-toolkit

After installation is complete, refresh the Web UI and go to the Settings -> GitHub page.

Configuration Process

  1. Open Settings -> GitHub.
  2. Paste your GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT).
  3. Click Test connection to validate the token (this directly calls the API for checking).
  4. Click Save token to save it.
  5. (Optional) Set the default owner and repository, or configure the API address, timeout, and other options.

Notes

  • Version dependency: requires DeepSeek Harness 0.1.5-rc.1 or later, as well as Node.js 22+.
  • No runtime dependencies: the plugin requires no build steps; the host environment uses Node’s built-in fetch, and the browser side only requires react and static UI primitives.
  • Error messages: when a tool fails, it provides specific remediation suggestions (for example, 401 prompts token rotation, 403 indicates permission or SAML SSO issues, and 422 indicates GitHub field-level errors).
  • License: MIT License.
