When developing agents with DeepSeek Harness (DSH), after switching tabs or stepping away from the computer, it is difficult to know in real time whether the Agent has finished replying or whether human intervention is required. The dsh-task-feedback plugin uses a favicon dot to provide this status feedback, with optional sound notifications to reduce reliance on manual checking.

Plugin Overview

This is a session status feedback plugin built for DeepSeek Harness. It is maintained by Pudge1996 and distributed under the MIT License.

Core Features

1. Real-Time Favicon Dot Feedback

The plugin monitors session status and provides visual feedback through the browser tab favicon when the page is not visible. Both color and shape are configurable:

  • Color States:
    • Green: The current task is complete
    • Blue: The current task is in progress or a subagent is running
    • Orange: Human intervention is required (waiting for approval, plan confirmation, answering questions, etc.)
  • Shape Support: Small dot | Circle | Rounded rectangle
  • Trigger Logic: Uses the native Page Visibility API and only triggers favicon changes when the page is not visible. If the session itself is already idle/complete, the favicon remains the default small whale icon.

2. Sound Notifications

Includes 12 synthesized sounds implemented via the Web Audio API, with no external dependencies. The following configuration is supported:

  • Sound Differentiation: Different sounds can be assigned to “Task completed” and “Your intervention is needed.”
  • Playback Timing:
    • Always Play: Plays whenever the status changes, regardless of whether the page is visible.
    • Play Only When Page Is Not Visible: Plays only when the page is minimized or the tab is switched away.

3. Technical Implementation

  • Pure front-end implementation.
  • No custom protocol, no host commands, no LLM calls, and no entries in conversation logs.
  • Integrates with DSH standard services sessions and uiSession to retrieve task execution status.

Installation and Activation

Use the official plugin installation command:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-task-feedback

Configuration and Usage

  1. Open Settings: Find the settings option in the DSH interface.
  2. Configure Feedback: Navigate to the feedback settings page.
  3. Adjust Parameters:
    • Favicon Shape: Choose small dot, circle, or rounded rectangle.
    • Sound Scope: Choose “Always Play” or “Play Only When Page Is Not Visible.”
    • Sound Selection: Select sounds for “Task completed” and “Your intervention is needed” respectively.

Configuration is persisted in localStorage.

Applicable Scenarios and Notes

  • Version Requirement: Supported from DSH v0.1.2-alpha.1 onward.
  • Mode Limitation: /goal mode is not currently supported.
  • Permission Note: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. It is recommended to review the source code and license before installation.

Summary

dsh-task-feedback uses the favicon and sound notifications to solve the problem of how developers can be aware of the status when they are not at their computer while using DSH. All functions are completed on the front end and do not interfere with background task logic.
