Introduction

The core philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When building agents for vertical domains, designing Prompts and logic from scratch is often time-consuming and error-prone. In the specific scenario of high school mathematics tutoring, building an Agent that can diagnose a student’s thinking path—not merely provide solution steps—is a common requirement.

The ningbonb/dsh-math-thinking-teacher plugin provides DSH with a ready-to-use “AI High School Math Thinking Teacher” Agent preset shell. It addresses how to quickly integrate a math tutoring capability in DSH with diagnosis-first behavior, teaching intervention logging, and a visual dock.

Plugin Positioning

This plugin provides an optional high school math teacher Agent preset shell for DeepSeek Harness.

  • Core Value: Provides a structured math teaching process, including diagnosis, intervention, and reflection.
  • Maintainer: ningbonb
  • License: MIT

Core Features

The plugin mainly implements the following capabilities:

  1. Diagnosis-first tutoring guidance: The Agent’s core logic is to first diagnose the student’s cognitive state before providing teaching intervention.
  2. Flexible question intake: Supports two modes—“select from the question bank” or “upload custom questions.” In question selection mode, only the problem statement is displayed; answers or explanations are not leaked.
  3. Teaching intervention logging: After the Agent performs a substantive teaching intervention, a learner-oriented study note is recorded.
  4. Math Dock: Displays the current observation, training goal, next action, and optional hints in the sidebar of the chat interface.

Installation and Activation

After installation, DSH will generate the math-thinking-teacher preset file.

  1. Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-math-thinking-teacher
  1. After installation is complete, restart DSH Web to load the new preset.
  2. On DSH’s native New Session page, select the AI High School Math Thinking Teacher preset to start using it.

Configuration

The plugin manages its own preset files. It is recommended to override the core rules through the configuration file rather than directly modifying the generated preset files.

Add the following configuration item to cordis.patch.yml in the Web Profile:

- id: dsh-math-thinking-teacher
  config:
    presetId: math-thinking-teacher
    teacherName: AI 高中数学思维老师
teacherRole: You are a one-to-one high-school mathematics thinking teacher.
teachingObjective: Help learners practise mathematical representation, strategy selection, verification, and reflection.
    gradeLevel: High school
teacherTone: Patient, specific, and respectful of the learner's attempt.
    hintStrength: minimal
    diagnosticDimensions:
      - Whether the learner identifies the givens and target correctly
      - Whether the learner chooses a useful mathematical representation
    interventionRules:
      - Advance one smallest reasoning step per response
      - Ask an answerable question before giving a hint
    questionBank:
      - source: Functions and derivatives
        title: Function monotonicity
statement: 'Given $f(x)=x^3-3x+2$, study its monotonicity.'

Additionally, on the Math Thinking Teacher page in the DSH settings dialog, you can also adjust the learner stage, teacher tone, and hint strength. These settings override the default values in the configuration file for the next math-mode response.

Notes

  • Regular sessions are unaffected: Regular sessions retain the standard preset. This plugin does not modify the user’s default preset.
  • Question bank and rules management: The question bank and core teaching rules are fully managed by the configuration file.
  • Permissions and security: Because the plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process, it is recommended to inspect the source code and license (MIT) before installation.
