Preface¶
When DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Desktop runs long-running tasks in Web mode, the native terminal output often lacks real-time feedback, and interface style customization is limited. The dsh-better-uiux plugin provides two core UI enhancements for DSH: real-time streaming terminal output and custom CSS injection. These two features are consolidated in the same settings section, controlled by toggles, to address visualization and customization needs during developer debugging.
Plugin Positioning¶
This is a UI enhancement (UIUX) plugin for DSH Desktop, maintained by nguyenduclong-ict. Its functionality is modularly integrated under Settings -> Better UIUX and mainly includes the following two independent components:
* Live terminal output: real-time streaming terminal output.
* Custom CSS: custom CSS injection.
Core Features¶
1. Real-Time Terminal Output¶
After enabling this toggle, output from foreground commands and background jobs (Jobs) is streamed in real time to the logs.
* Interactive elements: Output blocks include a pulsing header dot. Each output entry provides Copy, Stop, and View Job buttons.
* Output popup: Supports viewing detailed streaming output content through a popup.
2. Custom CSS Injection¶
Edit CSS code in the settings, and the styles take effect in real time. This feature allows users to deeply customize the DSH web interface without modifying the plugin source code.
3. Toggle Control Mechanism¶
Both features are controlled by independent toggles.
* Runtime behavior: When a feature is disabled, its corresponding route returns enabled:false and no longer intercepts child processes or jobs.
* Automatic cleanup: After disabling Live terminal, the plugin removes all injected nodes to avoid conflicts with future versions of DSH native real-time output.
Installation and Enablement¶
Installing this plugin requires the DSH CLI command.
dsh plugin --profile web add https://github.com/nguyenduclong-ict/dsh-better-uiux
After running the command, restart DSH Desktop or reload the Web configuration file for the plugin to take effect.
Typical Usage¶
- Go to the Settings menu in DSH Desktop.
- Find the Better UIUX section.
- Turn on the Live terminal output toggle to see real-time output for foreground and background tasks in the log stream, and use the popup or buttons to interact.
- Enter CSS code in the Custom CSS editor; after saving, the interface styles update immediately.
Notes¶
- Plugin conflict: Do not run the standalone
dsh-plugin-live-terminalplugin at the same time. Both use the same style IDs (dsh-live-*) and modal structure, and will override each other’s nodes. - Feature status: In the current version, the “edit message” feature has implemented code but remains hidden and disabled; the toggle is not shown in the settings interface.
- Performance overhead: Even when the Live terminal toggle is disabled, the background still maintains 1Hz polling (only performing no-op calls) to detect status changes.
- Uninstallation: To uninstall, use
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-better-uiux. Configuration data is stored locally; after uninstalling, manually clean<harness>/plugins/dsh-better-uiux/config.jsonand the browserlocalStorage(dsh_better_uiux_config_v2).
Summary¶
dsh-better-uiux addresses DSH’s shortcomings in real-time monitoring and style customization through a simple toggle mechanism. It is suitable for developers who need fine-grained debugging or custom interface styling. The plugin has no runtime dependencies and is ready to use after installation.
