Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is a plugin-centric agent development platform, and the composer is its core interactive component. The native + button has limited functionality and cannot easily meet the needs of quickly referencing files, managing attachments, or using slash commands in a conversation. The dsh-add-assets plugin aims to extend the composer’s interaction capabilities, providing richer file-operation entry points through a menu-driven and visual interface.

Overview

This plugin is an extension for the DeepSeek Harness Web client and is maintained by navid-kianfar. It replaces the + button at the beginning of the composer toolbar with an options menu, allowing users to directly add files, add folders, upload device images, or trigger slash commands. Selected paths are inserted into the draft as inline reference chips, and it supports full-screen image previews and file card display.

Core Features

  • Menu Integration: Provides four main options: add file, add folder, upload device image, and slash command. These options can be triggered by the corresponding keyboard shortcuts.
  • Path Selector: Supports two scopes: Project (workspace) and This machine (host).
    • The Project scope browses project files through Harness’s file reference service.
    • The This machine scope browses the host file system through interfaces provided by the plugin, and supports path search and navigation.
  • Inline Reference Chips: Selected paths are converted into inline chips. Their hidden value uses the @path mention format, making it easier for the model to recognize them. If the trigger pipeline is missing, the behavior degrades to plain text.
  • Attachment Preview: Takes over the composer’s attachment display area. Images support clicking to view them in full screen, while other files are displayed as cards with thumbnails and metadata.
  • Settings Card: Centrally manages all configuration items on the plugin settings page, supporting saving and discarding changes.

Typical Usage

  • Keyboard Shortcuts:
    • Press ⌘U or Ctrl+U to open the file selector.
    • Press ⇧⌘U or Ctrl+Shift+U to open the folder selector.
    • Press ⌘/ or Ctrl+/ to open the slash command menu.
  • Selector Interaction:
    • Enter a path in the search box (for example, ~/Down) to filter directories.
    • Use the ↑ / ↓ keys to move the highlight, Enter to select, and Esc to close.
    • After selecting items, press Cmd+Enter or Ctrl+Enter to add all selected items at once.

Environment and Dependencies

  • DeepSeek Harness: Requires version 0.1.5-rc.2, and the Web client (dsh web) must be used.
  • Runtime: The Node.js version must be ^22.19 or >=24.
  • Package Manager: The PATH environment variable must include pnpm.
  • Dependent Services: The plugin depends on the following Harness services (if missing, the corresponding feature will be unavailable):
    • dsh-file-reference service: The Project tab is unavailable, and only This machine is displayed.
    • inputTriggers service: Slash commands are unavailable, and selected paths are appended as plain text.

Notes

  • During IME (input method editor) composition input, keyboard shortcuts may be intercepted.
  • If no trigger pipeline is available, selected items are appended as plain text rather than as chips.
  • When a path contains double quotes or control characters, it cannot be written as mention text, and such selections are skipped.

Conclusion

Through menu-driven interaction and visual previews, this plugin optimizes the workflow for managing files and attachments in the DSH composer. For scenarios where local files or project resources need to be frequently referenced in conversations, it provides direct operation entry points.
