Introduction¶
In DeepSeek Harness (DSH) workflows, common pain points include not hearing an alert after a long task finishes, being unable to automatically interrupt a hung command, and long waits caused by the model repeatedly generating inefficient code. The dsh-attention-beep plugin is designed to address these issues: it plays a local human-voice alert directly from the host process, automatically interrupts a hung command and writes recovery guidance back into the tool result, and intercepts known performance pitfalls before spawn.
Core Features¶
1. Task Completion and Stall Alerts¶
The plugin uses the Windows .NET / WPF framework and Get-CimInstance Win32_Process to play sound directly through the DSH host process. This means users can still hear alerts for task completion, hung commands, no progress in a turn, or permission requests from the model, even if the browser tab is in the background, muted, or minimized. The sound is played by the host and does not go through the browser.
2. Automatic Recovery¶
When a pwsh command is confirmed to be hung, the plugin automatically interrupts that tool call. At the same time, it writes recovery guidance back into the tool result, explaining what happened, the current shell state, and how to continue, so the model can resume the task within the same turn. By default, the interruption applies only to a single call and does not cancel the entire session.
3. Command Guard¶
The plugin intercepts known performance pitfalls before a spawn command is executed (for example, Get-ChildItem -Recurse -Include). When a rule matches, it returns a tool error immediately with a suggested correction (approximately 0 ms), instead of waiting tens of seconds for execution. If the original form is really needed, the guard can be bypassed by setting run_in_background: true.
4. Platform Support¶
This plugin supports Windows only. Its three core capabilities (audio playback, process probing, and command guarding for PowerShell syntax) all depend on a Windows environment.
Installation and Activation¶
The installation command is as follows:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:kiterunner1/dsh-attention-beep
Note: You must stop any running DSH process before installation. Otherwise, writes to profiles/<name>/node_modules may fail, causing the profile to stop working properly.
After installation completes, restart DSH for the plugin to take effect. If you modify host code (for example, lib/*.js), a restart is also required.
Configuration¶
The plugin is configured in the config field of the loader line. Default values are defined in cordis.patch.yml. Users can override settings by ID in $DSH_HOME/settings.yaml.
Common configuration options include:
* enabled: Whether to enable the plugin.
* watchTools: List of tools to monitor, defaulting to [pwsh].
* warnMs / killMs: Warning and kill time thresholds for stall detection.
* guardEnabled: Whether to enable Command Guard.
* guardAllow: Allowlist of command substrings; if matched, the guard check is skipped.
Sound configuration supports voice:<key> (built-in human voices), system presets, or a custom audio file specified by an absolute path.
Typical Usage¶
- Change the alert sound: Edit
$DSH_HOME/settings.yamland set thesoundoption to point to your custom file. - Bypass the guard: Add
run_in_background: trueto the tool call configuration to force background execution and skip guard interception. - Prevent cancellation while waiting for input: Set
stallAutoResume: falseto ensure that the current turn is not cancelled when the model is calling tools such asask_user_questionand waiting for user input.
Use Cases and Considerations¶
This plugin is suitable for users who develop or debug automated workflows with DSH on Windows. When installing and debugging, ensure that the source code and license meet your compliance requirements.
Summary¶
dsh-attention-beep lowers the barrier to monitoring DSH tasks through local audio feedback and automatic recovery, and improves debugging efficiency for long-running tasks and hung scenarios.
