Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture, allowing developers to embed domain-specific features into DeepDeck workflows. Strudel Studio is one such audio-focused plugin. It brings the official Strudel browser REPL into the DeepDeck workspace and adds AI-assisted arrangement capabilities.

What It Is

Strudel Studio is a professional-grade Strudel visual sequencer plugin based on the DeepDeck App, authored by jo32. The project is based on the open-source Strudel project and uses the GNU AGPL-3.0-or-later license. It integrates Strudel’s source-code sharing, live-coding editor, and DeepDeck-native example and sound-browsing features.

Core Features

  • Sandboxed Strudel runtime: Runs Strudel code in a sandboxed environment, isolated from DeepDeck’s trusted bridge page.
  • AI Assistant tab: An AI assistant tab connected to the main Agent session, providing assisted arrangement.
  • Strudel source sharing: Supports sharing and collaboration on Strudel source code.
  • Live-coding editor: A live-coding editor with transport controls.
  • DeepDeck-native examples: Provides DeepDeck-native examples and sound-browsing features.
  • Tool: strudel_apply_source: Provides the strudel_apply_source tool for source-code replacement operations.

Installation and Enablement

The official recommended deployment is through DeepDeck’s plugin installation process.

  1. Open Settings → Apps.
  2. Paste https://github.com/jo32/dsh-strudel-studio.git into Install an App plugin.
  3. Select Inspect source, check the detected packages and build commands, then select Confirm install.
  4. Restart DeepDeck as prompted.
  5. Open Apps → Strudel Studio from the sidebar.

Local development requires building the plugin:

git clone https://github.com/jo32/dsh-strudel-studio.git
cd dsh-strudel-studio
bun install
bun test
bun run build
dsh plugin --profile web add "$PWD"

Typical Usage

  • Code interaction: Right-click a code range in the editor to attach it to the composer or trigger an Agent rewrite.
  • Image input: The bottom panel of the AI assistant supports pasting, selecting, or dragging images (limited to PNG/JPEG/WebP/GIF, up to 4 images, 5 MB per image, and 12 MB total).
  • Playback control: After the AI modifies the code, the user must explicitly trigger playback/update; the system does not start playback automatically.
  • Lifecycle: Uses the Creator apply lifecycle instead of separate build calls.

Use Cases and Notes

  • License: Based on the GNU AGPL-3.0-or-later license.
  • Runtime changes: The original visual step-sequencer builder and simulated audio engine have been removed. It now directly uses upstream @strudel/repl@1.3.0 and @strudel/core@1.2.6.
  • Draft rejection mechanism: Drafts returned by the AI are rejected if they are stale, oversized, malformed, or contain restricted APIs (such as DOM, network, or storage).
  • Network dependencies: The first playback may need to access raw.githubusercontent.com to load the default sample manifest, so a network connection is required.
  • Security isolation: The Strudel UI runs in an iframe and communicates with the main page via CSP and MessageChannel to ensure security.

Conclusion

Strudel Studio introduces professional-grade audio arrangement capabilities to the DSH ecosystem. By combining a sandboxed runtime with an AI assistant, it creates a closed loop from code editing to audio generation. Developers can refer to its source code and catalog page for further understanding.
