Introduction¶
When developing with DeepSeek Harness (DSH), running multiple sessions concurrently can cause frequent context switching, making it difficult to focus on the current task. DSH Beacon is designed to address this pain point by providing a centralized attention management space for concurrent sessions.
Plugin Overview¶
DSH Beacon is an installable plugin package for DeepSeek Harness, focused on monitoring and handoff for concurrent sessions. It is maintained by JingzeChen and licensed under the MIT License. The plugin integrates deterministic activity projection, attention ranking, bounded briefs, the /brief command, draggable activity beacons, a global workbench, and single-session context views.
Core Features¶
DSH Beacon provides the following core capabilities:
- Deterministic activity projection: Presents a predictable projection of session activity.
- Attention ranking: Prioritizes tasks that need attention.
- Bounded briefs: Generates size-controlled session briefs.
/briefcommand: Triggers brief generation from the command line.- Draggable activity beacon: Provides a global entry point for activity, with support for drag-and-drop layout.
- Global workbench: Lists unarchived top-level sessions.
- Single-session context view: Displays the context state of a specific session.
Installation and Activation¶
Before using the plugin, ensure that a compatible version of DeepSeek Harness is already installed. Beacon requires Cordis 4.0.2, Node.js ^22.19.0 or >=24.0.0, and React ^18.2.0 to run.
The installation steps are as follows:
- Add the plugin to the Web profile configuration:
dsh plugin --profile web add @jingzechen/dsh-beacon
- Dump the configuration to confirm that the plugin is enabled:
dsh --profile web --dump-config
- Start the Web client:
dsh --profile web
To update or remove the plugin, use the following commands:
dsh plugin --profile web update @jingzechen/dsh-beacon
dsh plugin --profile web remove @jingzechen/dsh-beacon
Configuration and Usage¶
The plugin provides conservative default configuration through cordis.patch.yml. If configuration changes are needed, you can override the dsh-beacon line. Because DSH patch lines replace configuration rather than deep-merging it, all required fields must be declared again when making changes.
In the sessionBriefLlm configuration, if both provider and model are specified, generated briefs can be pinned to a specific route; if both are omitted, the latest available route from the session record is used.
Notes¶
During use, pay attention to the following facts and limitations:
- Version compatibility: The DeepSeek Harness package version must satisfy
>=0.1.2-alpha.6 <0.1.3and includeSessionEventIntentand thesession-briefLLM purpose. - File access: Beacon does not directly read arbitrary workspace files or add filesystem tools.
- Permissions and interactions: Beacon does not add batch approval, auto-answers, or a second authorization channel. Approval and Q&A responses use the existing DSH interaction objects.
- Browser local storage: Preferences such as Pin, Snooze, and Bookmark are stored only in the current browser, are reset after clearing site data, and are not synchronized to other devices.
- Picture-in-Picture: Opening the standalone preview window (Document Picture-in-Picture) requires an explicit click.
- Token cost: Brief generation consumes tokens and may incur provider charges.
Summary¶
DSH Beacon provides DSH users with the core workbench features needed to manage concurrent sessions. Through global views and the brief mechanism, it can significantly reduce cognitive load in multi-session environments. Before installation, review the source code and license, and ensure that the environment versions meet the requirements.
