When developing or testing Agents using DeepSeek Harness (DSH), long-running tasks are often difficult to track in real time through visual state changes. This plugin provides an intuitive auditory feedback mechanism by triggering alert tones at specific interaction nodes.
What It Is¶
dsh-task-sounds is a lightweight plugin designed for the DSH Web UI and maintained by user henrytang2011win-coder. It uses the browser-native Web Audio API to synthesize alert tones in real time, without relying on any external audio files, network requests, or a host process, and supports fully offline operation.
Core Features¶
- Conversation completion alert: Plays an alert tone when an Agent completes a round of conversation.
- Question alert tone: Plays a “ding-dong” tone when an Agent asks the user a question (including a question, plan review, or approval) and waits for input.
- Zero-dependency synthesis: Generates audio entirely in the browser, without assets, network access, or a host process.
- State persistence: Supports a mute toggle; the mute state is stored in
localStorageand persists after page refresh. - Historical playback protection: Does not replay alert tones for already processed nodes when loading historical messages or paging through history.
Installation and Activation¶
Run the following command to install the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-task-sounds
After installation, restart the dsh web process to activate it.
Typical Usage¶
- After restarting the DSH Web service, start a task or let the Agent run automatically.
- Observe and listen:
- done: Plays when an Agent completes a round of conversation.
- question: Plays when an Agent asks a question or requires approval.
- Click the 🔔 icon in the conversation header toolbar to mute, and click it again to restore sound.
Notes and Use Cases¶
- Browser autoplay policy: The audio engine is unlocked only after the first mouse click or key press interaction on the page, so alert tones can be heard only after initial interaction.
- Pure client-side implementation: The plugin client code is pure JavaScript and requires no bundler.
- Suitable audience: Suitable for developers who need to monitor Agent progress in noisy environments or with auditory assistance.
Closing¶
This plugin solves the lack of state feedback with an extremely small footprint and is well suited for integration into the daily DSH development workflow. More technical details and source code can be found in the GitHub repository.
