When converting a Chinese resume into an English resume for technical roles, direct translation often fails to meet the reading expectations of the target market. The English-speaking technical job market tends to read for “evidence,” while common elements in Chinese resumes—bulleted responsibilities, demographic fields, and lyrical descriptions—can interfere with that reading. The plugin introduced below addresses this problem by reshaping the content.
What This Is¶
This is a resume localization skill (CN→EN) maintained by ChenneyZhuang. It is designed to rewrite a Chinese resume into an English resume that meets the expectations of English-speaking technical roles and to ensure that the document is ATS-parseable.
Core Features¶
The plugin mainly handles the following:
- Remove demographic fields: Automatically removes fields such as gender, age, and photos to ensure hiring compliance.
- Downgrade service-industry experience: Downgrades or removes service-industry experience to highlight the technical background; if there is no other experience, compresses it to a single line.
- Convert responsibilities into quantified outcomes: Transforms responsibility descriptions into quantified outcomes (numbers), rather than simple lists of tasks.
- Standardize formatting: Unifies spelling variants (AU/US) and date formats.
- Maintain ATS-parseability: Ensures the document is in an ATS-parseable format (standard headings, no tables).
- Changelog and issue list: Returns a complete changelog and a batch-processed issue list (for missing quantitative data).
Installation and Enablement¶
This skill is a single SKILL.md with zero dependencies. The installation command is:
git clone https://github.com/ChenneyZhuang/resume-localize-cn2en ~/.claude/skills/resume-localize-cn2en
Typical Usage¶
The plugin rewrites “responsibility”-style descriptions into “outcome”-style descriptions. For example:
- Input: Responsible for backend system development
- Output: Built the order-processing backend, cutting order cycle time from 40 min to 15 min.
The output returned by the plugin usually contains three parts: the localized resume, a changelog, and an issue list.
Use Cases and Considerations¶
Notes:
- Dependency on quantitative data: Quantified outcomes require the candidate to provide real numbers. The plugin marks missing numbers as
[X]instead of inventing them, so the output may include an issue list that needs manual completion. - ATS compatibility: Regarding ATS-parseability, “clean” here means standard headings and a table-free structure; it does not guarantee compatibility with all specific parser rules.
Summary¶
The plugin version is v0.2.0 and has passed end-to-end testing with a complete sample resume. The maintainer has open-sourced it under the MIT license.
