The official web_search feature of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) relies on DEEPSEEK_API_KEY. Each search requires a model call, introducing latency and token overhead. To achieve zero-cost, low-latency web search in a local environment, an alternative approach that bypasses model inference is needed.
dsh-web-search-so360 is a DSH plugin maintained by Bronier. Based on 360 Search (so.com), it provides API-key-free web search. It parses public search result pages, replacing the search channel from model calls to network requests.
Core Features¶
- No API key, no model calls: It does not consume model tokens and directly returns structured data.
- Dual-engine fallback: so360 is prioritized (better for Chinese search), with Bing as a backup engine.
- so360 engine: Parses 360 Search SERPs and prefers reading the
data-mdurlattribute in HTML to obtain real links, avoiding secondary redirects. - Bing engine: Supports cookie pre-warming + direct result output, with response times under 1 second.
- Zero dependencies: Uses only the native Node.js
fetchAPI and does not depend on Playwright or Puppeteer. - Structured output: Returns data including titles, links, and abstracts.
Installation and Enabling¶
- Run the installation command in the terminal:
dsh plugin --profile desktop add github:Bronier/dsh-web-search-so360
- After installation, restart DSH. The plugin will then take effect. Uninstalling the plugin restores DSH’s official
web_searchchannel.
Typical Usage¶
By default, the plugin attempts the so360 and bing engines in order until a valid result is obtained. To customize the engine order, modify the configuration file.
For example, to use only the Bing engine, configure cordis.patch.yml as follows:
- insert:
- id: web-search-so360
name: 'dsh-web-search-so360'
config:
engines: ['bing']
Use Cases and Notes¶
- It is essentially scraping public search result pages. If the target website changes its anti-scraping policies, parsing may fail.
- A single search returns up to about 10 results.
- In China’s network environment, Bing may sometimes be blocked, so using the so360 engine is usually more stable.
- Please comply with the terms of service of the target website. This is for personal local research use only.
Summary¶
This plugin shifts search cost from model inference to network requests. It is suitable for quickly obtaining search results in local development, debugging, or resource-constrained scenarios.
