In the day-to-day development of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), managing skills usually involves directly manipulating Markdown files on disk. For developers who frequently adjust skill descriptions or body content, repeatedly switching between file operations and the browser is inefficient.
dsh-skill-editor solves this pain point. It is a local plugin that lets users view and modify the SKILL.md content of skills directly on the DSH Web settings page. The project is maintained by bosinHU, licensed under MIT, uses the Node.js native node:fs module for file reading and writing, and depends on no third-party libraries.
Core Features¶
- Edit in place from the settings page: From the Skill Editor entry on the Web settings page, the system lists all skills. Expand a skill to edit it.
- Safety tiers: Local skills are editable, while system/built-in skills are read-only. Built-in skills include risk warnings to prevent accidental operations that could cause DSH to malfunction.
- Save directly to disk: Click Save after editing, and the content is immediately written to disk. Because skills support hot loading, refresh the page to apply the changes; no service restart is required.
- Precise changes: Only the body content and the
nameanddescriptionfields are modified. Other frontmatter configuration inSKILL.mdis preserved, with no extraneous changes. - Zero dependencies: File read/write logic is implemented with the Node.js native
node:fsmodule. It does not rely on the internal implementation of the skill plugin, avoiding breakage during upgrades. - Independent rollback: As a standalone plugin, it can be completely removed without affecting DSH core functionality.
Installation and Activation¶
The plugin is automatically injected into the dsh.client.platform: web environment. After installation, restart the Web service.
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-skill-editor
After installation is complete, restart the Web service:
dsh --profile web
Refresh the browser settings page, and the Skill Editor entry will be visible.
Usage Steps¶
- Go to the DSH Web settings interface and click Skill Editor.
- Expand the skill you want to modify and edit the
descriptionor the body content (the part after the---delimiter inSKILL.md). - Click Save. The content is immediately written back to disk, and the skill takes effect immediately.
Notes¶
Due to permission restrictions, system/built-in skills (such as bundled or plugin-embedded skills) appear as read-only in the editor. To modify such skills, create a copy with the same name under the local ~/.dsh/skills or workspace .dsh/skills directory and edit the copy instead.
Ecosystem and Links¶
dsh-skill-editor is a plugin in the DeepSeek Harness ecosystem. DSH follows the philosophy of “everything is a plugin.” The community catalog has no official affiliation with DeepSeek / High-Flyer.
