Introduction¶
The core philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing games or interactive applications with AI assistance, developers frequently need to verify the runtime result of Godot 4 projects. Traditional workflows often require manually running export commands in a terminal, or opening a separate editor window, which disrupts the coherence of the conversational flow. The dsh-godot-preview plugin aims to solve this problem. It integrates Godot’s preview capability directly into the Harness session view, without modifying Harness core code, and provides real-time preview in both Web and Native modes through an independent client module.
Core Features¶
This plugin is installed independently and does not depend on DSH core components. It manages the lifecycle of Godot processes through the Host service and provides UI display on the Client side. Its main capabilities include:
- Environment validation: Automatically checks the
project.godotfile in the current workspace and verifies whether the user-specified Godot 4.x executable exists. - Web preview: Runs a Web Debug export and embeds the preview result into the Harness interface. For compatibility, it is recommended to use GDScript and the Compatibility renderer.
- Native preview: Launches a managed native Godot window inside the plugin, supporting start and stop operations.
- File watching and building: Watches project file changes, supports configurable debouncing and single-flight rebuilding, and merges change requests during builds.
- Failure fallback: If a subsequent export fails, it automatically retains the last successful Web preview result.
- Logging and debugging: Displays bounded Host/Export/Runtime logs and provides structured failure-location diagnostics.
- Persistent configuration: Saves the Godot path and preview preferences under the
DSH_HOMEdirectory.
Installation and Enablement¶
The plugin is installed through DSH’s plugin system. After installation, the path to Godot 4.x must be configured in Harness settings.
- Install the plugin:
Run the following command in a terminal or command line to install the plugin from GitHub:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:baiyuscc13724-max/dsh-godot-preview
*Note: It can also be searched for and installed from the DSH settings page via the plugin marketplace.*
- Configure the Godot path:
After installation, refresh the page. In the Harness interface, go toSettings → Godot Previewand enter the absolute path of the installed Godot 4.x executable. If the path is left blank, the plugin will try to locate it in the system PATH.
Usage¶
Once configuration is complete, you can use the preview feature in the session view.
- Open a Harness session in the root directory of a Godot project.
- Open the Godot Preview session view.
- Confirm the Godot 4.x executable path in settings and select Web or Native mode.
- Click the Start button to launch the preview.
- Web mode: Displays only the last successful export result.
- Native mode: A managed native Godot window will open.
- Click the Stop button to stop the preview; this operation is idempotent.
Applicable Scenarios and Cautions¶
This plugin is suitable for developers who need to frequently check the runtime state of Godot projects, especially in scenarios involving AI-assisted scripting and debugging interactive logic.
Important notes:
- Godot engine is not included: The plugin itself does not download or install Godot, and it does not bundle Chromium, Android/Xcode toolchains, export templates, or mini-game SDKs. Users must install Godot 4.x independently.
- Network isolation: Web preview and local APIs only listen on
127.0.0.1(loopback), and network access is limited to the local machine. The plugin does not include any cloud services, accounts, API keys, telemetry, or remote data retention features. - Local storage: User data persistence is limited to plugin settings under
DSH_HOME, and generated preview output is saved only in the.godot-harnesssubdirectory under the project root. - Security mechanisms: The plugin uses
spawn(..., { shell: false })to launch child processes, strictly validates request headers, Host/Origin, and path traversal, and enforces size limits on request bodies and log output.
Short Conclusion¶
The dsh-godot-preview plugin standardizes and integrates Godot’s preview workflow, reducing the need for developers to switch frequently between the terminal and the editor. Through controlled child-process management and local network policies, it provides Harness users with reliable Godot 4 project preview capabilities without increasing system complexity. The plugin’s source code and documentation are hosted on GitHub; refer to the project repository for details.
