Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses a plugin-based architecture, allowing community developers to extend its functionality. During development or usage, developers often need a clear view of token consumption and cumulative cost for each conversation turn, and they may need to export conversation history into documents for archiving or review. The official DSH interface sometimes hides some statistics or truncates the statistics bar for long conversations. The dsh-usage-export plugin introduced below aims to address these pain points by directly showing cost estimates and full statistics below the input box, and by providing Markdown or PDF export.
Plugin Positioning¶
This is a local-first web plugin maintained by user alenhu2005. It mainly solves three problems:
1. Cost transparency: displays the estimated cost for the current prompt and the cumulative estimated cost for the entire conversation in real time.
2. Complete statistics: expands all statistics indicators to avoid truncation.
3. Convenient export: exports visible text content to Markdown or a printable PDF.
Core Features¶
The plugin provides the following core capabilities:
1. Real-Time Cost and Usage Display¶
Below the conversation input box, it displays the current status and cost estimates in real time:
- Peak/off-peak indicator: shows whether the current period is peak or off-peak. Peak hours are Taiwan time weekdays 09:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00.
- Cost estimation: displays the estimated cost for the current prompt and the cumulative estimated cost for the entire conversation. The calculation is based on displayed token usage, with pricing converted at 1 CNY = NT$4.60 (refer to DeepSeek’s official pricing page for exact details).
2. Expanded Statistics¶
The native interface may truncate the statistics row. This plugin fully expands it to display the following metrics:
- Conversation turns and steps
- LLM processing time
- Time to first token
- Generation speed
- Cache hit status
- Input and output token counts
3. Safe Export¶
Supports exporting conversation records to Markdown or PDF.
- Content selection: when exporting, you can choose to export all messages, only user messages, or only assistant messages.
- PDF font size adjustment: PDF export includes a slider ranging from 5 to 20 px, with a default of 11 px, to adjust print font size and scaling.
- Privacy protection: only visible on-screen text content is exported. It does not include reasoning processes, tool calls, attachments, or workspace files.
Installation¶
Before installing, ensure your environment meets the requirements:
- Node.js 22+
- DeepSeek Harness version 0.1.1-rc.2 or later
- A properly running web profile
Use the following command to install the plugin:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:alenhu2005/dsh-usage-export
After installation, restart the DSH Web service. You can then see the new statistics panel and export buttons in any conversation.
To remove the plugin, run:
dsh plugin --profile web remove dsh-usage-export
Usage¶
After a DeepSeek reply is completed, status and cost information automatically appear below the input box. Click Export MD or Export PDF to export.
PDF export workflow:
1. In the export dialog, select the content scope to export.
2. Drag the slider to adjust the print font size (5–20 px).
3. The browser’s native print window opens. Choose “Save as PDF” to save the file.
Privacy and Calculation Notes¶
- Local calculation: all cost estimates are performed in the browser and calculated based on currently displayed token usage; no data is uploaded to a server.
- Data scope: only visible text is exported. The plugin does not send telemetry data and does not read files in the workspace.
- Pricing reference: price conversion is for reference only; please refer to DeepSeek’s official pricing page.
Ecosystem Context¶
This plugin belongs to the third-party plugin ecosystem of DeepSeek Harness. The ecosystem follows the “everything is a plugin” philosophy. The community directory provides an indexing service for plugins, but the plugin itself is maintained by independent developers and is not affiliated with DeepSeek official.
Conclusion¶
By calculating and rendering locally in the browser, this plugin provides developers with a lightweight solution for cost monitoring and document export. To view the source code or get updates, visit the GitHub repository.
