Introduction¶
In the Web environment of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), when an agent is performing a task, users are often doing something else and may not immediately notice that the task has finished. The dsh-turn-chime plugin leverages DSH’s rendering slot mechanism to automatically play a chime at the end of an agent turn, helping users quickly catch the signal that a task has completed.
Core Features¶
This plugin focuses on solving the “unawareness of task completion” problem, and includes the following capabilities:
* Play a chime after a task completes.
* Provide a settings page to toggle the chime on/off and adjust volume.
* Support uploading custom audio files in MP3, WAV, OGG, and M4A formats.
* Include a built-in two-tone chime synthesis feature.
* Triple trigger insurance mechanism: freshness window (60 seconds), page stability window (3 seconds), and deduplication (up to 200 entries).
* Store settings and audio on the host side, supporting cross-browser persistence.
* Privacy protection: does not read credentials, does not access the internet, and does not modify the DSH kernel.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before installation, ensure your environment meets the requirements: Node.js ≥ 20, pnpm ≥ 10.
Install using the official CLI:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-turn-chime@latest
After installation, you must restart the dsh web process and perform a hard refresh in the browser (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+R) to load the latest code.
Configuration and Usage¶
After installing the plugin, find the “chime”-related options on the DSH settings page.
- Toggle and Volume: Enable the chime on the settings page and drag the volume slider to an appropriate level.
- Preview: Click the “Preview” button to confirm the playback effect at the current volume.
- Custom Audio: Click “Upload Audio” to select a local file, supporting audio files up to 8 MB. The upload takes effect automatically.
- Reset to Default: To use the built-in chime, click “Restore Built-in” on the settings page.
The plugin stores the configuration file and audio file in the host-side ~/.dsh/turn-chime/ directory.
How It Works and Limitations¶
- Trigger Mechanism: The plugin is registered on DSH’s
conversation.chat.assistant-actionsslot and marks task completion by rendering a hidden entry (renderingnull). - Safety Mechanism: To prevent unwanted interruptions, three safeguards are provided: only fresh turns within 60 seconds trigger a chime, renders within the first 3 seconds after opening the page do not count, and each turn triggers at most once.
- Scope: The chime only applies to the currently open conversation. It also plays when a task fails or is interrupted; currently, it does not distinguish between success and failure states.
- Browser Limitation: Due to browser autoplay policies, the first time you use it, an interaction on the page (a click or keypress) is required to unlock audio permissions. After that, task completion can play automatically.
Conclusion¶
dsh-turn-chime is a lightweight DSH Web plugin. It leverages officially exposed rendering slots to provide auditory feedback for task completion without modifying the kernel. It is ideal for developers who need clear awareness of agent execution progress.
