Introduction¶
The concept of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” In local research, materials often end up scattered across web searches, PDF readers, spreadsheets, and note-taking apps. Hana Research brings these steps into the same traceable workflow, providing local-first support for literature discovery, close PDF reading, evidence organization, and systematic review in psychology and social science research.
What Is This¶
Hana Research is a local workspace for literature review, PDF annotation, evidence synthesis, and research notes.
- Version: Currently 0.5.0-beta.1 (developer preview).
- Maintainer: zhoupengyun572-cell.
- Positioning: Solve the problems of scattered and hard-to-trace research materials by providing a one-stop solution from literature discovery to systematic review.
Core Capabilities¶
Hana Research covers the full workflow from literature management to academic writing:
- Literature Discovery: Supports searching across four major sources — OpenAlex, Crossref, arXiv, and PubMed — with AI interpretation, saved searches, and journal synchronization.
- Project Organization: Provides a project library, paper roles, reading status, and priority management, with support for cross-paper relationships and next-step suggestions.
- PDF Close Reading: A three-pane reader with table of contents / thumbnails / search, colored annotations, page-level navigation, and structured excerpts.
- Systematic Review: Built-in tools for PRISMA, GRADE, and RoB 2, supporting two-stage screening, independent dual assessment, and conflict arbitration.
- Evidence Synthesis: Supports custom study coding, RoB 2 / ROBINS-I, GRADE, evidence matrices, and argument chains.
- Export and Collaboration: Supports exporting to Markdown, DOCX, PDF, CSV, BibTeX, and other formats, and provides 21 Harness Agent tools.
Installation and Enablement¶
Using this plugin requires the DeepSeek Harness web Profile and a Node.js environment version >= 22.13.0.
The installation command is as follows:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:zhoupengyun572-cell/dsh-hana-research#v0.5.0-beta.1
After installation, restart Harness. The plugin will be automatically added to the web Profile. Data is stored by default in $DSH_HOME/plugin-data/hana-research/.
Note: Uninstalling the plugin does not automatically delete research data.
Typical Usage¶
The basic steps to complete a literature project are as follows:
- Open the “Project Library” and create a new research project.
- Upload a PDF to the project, or search from the “Literature Center” and import open-access literature.
- Open the PDF, select text to create annotations or excerpts; organize the research question, methods, results, and limitations in the summary template on the right.
Applicable Scenarios and Notes¶
Hana Research is especially suitable for researchers who need to conduct systematic reviews or evidence synthesis.
- Systematic Reviews: If you need to conduct a rigorous systematic review, the plugin’s PRISMA, GRADE, and RoB 2 tools can help with screening, coding, and quality appraisal.
- Local-First: All data is stored locally by default, making it suitable for privacy-sensitive scenarios.
- Platform Limitations: Windows has full support; Ubuntu currently has automated CI only, with no complete GUI manual acceptance yet.
The current version is a beta release. The plugin runs with DSH process permissions, so it is recommended to review the source code and license (MIT) before installing.
