In DeepSeek Harness (DSH), the process of an Agent executing tasks is often a “black box,” making it difficult for users to understand the specific stage, elapsed time, and remaining time. The DeepSeek Harness Task Progress Bar plugin aims to solve this pain point by using an independent floating window to display, in real time, the task stage, percentage, current action, elapsed time, and estimated remaining time.

Plugin Overview

This plugin is maintained by uuhihj and is an open-source tool. It mainly addresses the lack of visualization during Agent task execution, allowing users to intuitively monitor the task lifecycle.

Core Features

  1. Fully automatic task lifecycle handling
The plugin automatically detects task start, progress, and completion through the DSH event stream. It does not rely on active reporting from the Agent—install and use immediately.

  2. Logic-based ETA estimation
The plugin has reasonable estimated time of arrival (ETA) calculation logic and can dynamically correct estimates based on task progress.

  3. Smart stage templates
The plugin can automatically generate stage descriptions based on the task type.

  4. Smart task name summarization
It automatically summarizes task messages dispatched by the user into short names for easy reading.

  5. Preventing false task expiration
Built-in task expiration detection logic avoids long-step tasks being incorrectly marked as invalid.

  6. Zero-intrusion independent DOM floating window
Displayed at the bottom of the page, it injects no DSH native UI slots and does not affect the chat interface.

  7. Supports concurrent multi-task tracking and position memory
It can track multiple concurrent tasks simultaneously and remembers the window position, so it is not lost after refreshing.

Installation and Enablement

Use the following command to install the plugin from GitHub:

dsh plugin --profile web add github:uuhihj/task-progress-bar

After installation, restart the DSH Web process so that the progress bar appears at the bottom of the page.

Typical Usage

  • After task dispatch: The progress bar appears immediately at the bottom of the page, showing the task name and initial status.
  • Agent reporting: If the Agent reports progress information (such as dsh-progress), the interface displays more precise stages and ETA.
  • Task completion: After completion, the interface automatically displays a green “✅ Completed” status and fades out after 30 seconds.
  • Idle state: When all tasks are completed and become idle, the progress bar shrinks into a semi-transparent small gray dot; click it to expand and view details.

Notes

  • The plugin is licensed under the MIT License.
  • The runtime environment requires Node.js version >= 22.19.0.
  • Task expiration logic is max(2 minutes, reported ETA×1.5).
  • When fully idle, a small gray dot is displayed; click it to expand.

Summary

With a zero-intrusion approach, this plugin provides DSH users with real-time monitoring of task progress. For scenarios involving long-running or complex tasks, it effectively reduces waiting anxiety and improves the development experience.
