Foreword

The philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is that “everything is a plugin.” A common issue in agent development or daily use is this: when a conversation turn ends, or when the AI proactively asks you a question or requests approval, you can easily miss these states if you switch to another tab. dsh-session-notify solves this problem by allowing completion status to come to you, rather than forcing you to stare at the screen and wait.

Plugin Introduction

dsh-session-notify is a client plugin for DSH, maintained by developer TelosmaYLX. Its core value is to proactively notify you of completion status, elapsed time, and usage after each conversation turn ends. It also provides immediate reminders when the AI asks a question or requests approval.

Core Features

The plugin includes the following verified features:

  1. Three-Channel Reminders

    • In-Session System Messages: Writes the end reason, elapsed time, and usage into the session log and persists it with the JSONL file.
    • Browser System Notifications: Uses native browser popups, with a unique tag for each completion event.
    • In-Page Toast: Displays a floating popup in the bottom-right corner as a fallback channel when system notifications are muted or unsupported by the environment.
  2. Full Coverage of Background Sessions

    • The host maintains projection units for all sessions, including background sessions and sessions without open windows.
    • The client observes changes in the running bit from the session list snapshot and triggers notifications without requiring you to have a window open.
  3. Immediate Reminders for Questions and Approvals

    • Question Reminders: Immediately notifies you when the AI calls ask_user_question. It supports custom titles and body text, including placeholders such as {question}.
    • Approval Reminders: Immediately notifies you when a session requests permission approval. The title and body include the tool name and optional reason, but do not include sensitive parameters.
  4. High Configurability

    • Language Support: Supports five languages: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean.
    • Template Editor: Provides a visual copy template editor (Chip capsule editor) with real-time preview support.
    • Preset System: Includes four built-in style presets (default + 3 styles) and supports custom presets with persistent saving.
  5. Data and Engineering Quality

    • Official Metrics: Cache hit rate and generation speed are taken from the official projection and use the same metric as the status bar.
    • Zero External Dependencies: The host layer has zero bare imports. It mounts upon installation and declares the official dsh.bundle manifest.
    • Self-Test Script: Provides npm run selftest for project self-checking.

Installation and Enablement

Installation should use the official DSH plugin management command rather than installing the npm package directly.

dsh plugin --profile web add @telosmaylx/dsh-session-notify

After installation, you must refresh the browser page to load the client bundle. When receiving the first notification event, you need to allow browser notification permissions.

Note: npm install only adds dependencies and does not automatically register the plugin. You must use dsh plugin add.

Typical Usage

After installation and page refresh, the plugin runs automatically. You can configure it through the settings panel:

  1. View Notifications: Start any conversation turn and wait for it to end. You will see the in-page toast in the bottom-right corner, browser system notifications, and a new prompt line in the session log.
  2. Switch Language: Switch the language in the settings panel. The notification text and interface will re-render immediately.
  3. Edit Templates: Customize notification text using the visual editor and insert placeholders such as {title} and {cache}.
  4. Manage Presets: Four built-in style presets are available, and you can save custom presets.

Notes

  • Environment Requirements: Node.js >= 22 and a DSH Web profile deployment are required.
  • Browser Support: The browser must support Web Notification permissions.
  • License: MIT.
  • Uninstall Behavior: After uninstalling, configuration settings and custom presets are retained in localStorage and can be restored after reinstalling.

Short Closing

dsh-session-notify solves the problem of missed session states through three-channel reminders and background session coverage. It provides immediate feedback and a good customization experience through the visual editor and preset system, making it suitable for users who use DSH in multitasking environments.
