In the development scenario of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), agents retrieving real-time information typically face two pain points: first, relying on an LLM to autonomously invoke search tools may lead to hallucinations or incorrect information due to knowledge cutoff because of the lack of explicit constraints; second, standard agent workflows require multi-step reasoning, causing high response latency and consuming a large number of tokens. The dsh-web-search-button plugin is designed to solve this issue. It directly exposes DeepSeek’s built-in ctx.web search service in the conversation input bar and triggers it via a button or slash command, enabling ultra-fast web search with zero LLM overhead.
Plugin Positioning¶
This is a web-search utility plugin maintained by swenbo1-web, designed for DeepSeek Harness (DSH) Desktop. It provides a direct web search button and /search slash command, allowing users to invoke the host-level search service directly from the conversation input bar. It bypasses the LLM’s multi-step reasoning process and injects web search results (including title, snippet, date, and source link) directly into the conversation in Markdown format.
Core Capabilities¶
- Zero LLM overhead: Search results are returned directly by the host service, without being generated by the model, consuming 0 tokens.
- Dual invocation modes: Supports clicking the 🌐 button in the input bar, and typing
/search <keyword>and pressing Enter. - Native UI integration: Mounted in the
conversation.input.leftslot, uses the official--dsw-*design tokens, and supports dark/light mode switching. - Automatic lifecycle management: Based on the Cordis Scope mechanism, the plugin is automatically uninstalled when reloaded or disabled, preventing memory leaks.
Installation Steps¶
Installation requires cloning the code to local disk and registering the plugin in DSH’s Web configuration file via a directory junction.
- Clone the code to a local directory
git clone https://github.com/swenbo1-web/dsh-web-search-button.git D:/deepseek/dsh-web-search-button
- Create a directory junction
Run the following command in PowerShell to connect the plugin directory to DSH’s Web configuration file directory:
New-Item -ItemType Junction -Path "$env:APPDATA\dsh-desktop\harness\profiles\web\node_modules\dsh-web-search-button" -Target "D:\deepseek\dsh-web-search-button"
- Declare the dependency
Open%APPDATA%\dsh-desktop\harness\profiles\web\package.jsonand declare the plugin independenciesanddsh.profile.bundles:
{
"dependencies": {
"dsh-web-search-button": "link:D:/deepseek/dsh-web-search-button"
},
"dsh": {
"profile": {
"bundles": [
"@deepseek-ai/dsh-base",
"@deepseek-ai/dsh-web-app",
"dsh-web-search-button"
]
}
}
}
- Restart and refresh
After saving the configuration file, restart the DSH Desktop app.
Usage¶
After installation, you can trigger the search in the following two ways:
- Slash command: Type
/search <keyword>in the conversation input bar and press Enter. - Button trigger: Click the 🌐 Web Search button on the left side of the input bar. The button automatically reads the current draft content in the input box as the search keyword.
Important Notes¶
- Runtime environment: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. The active DSH Desktop profile (Web Profile) must be enabled.
- Performance: Search execution takes about 1 second and does not consume LLM token quota.
- Security and compliance: The plugin is licensed under MIT. Before use, it is recommended to review the source code to ensure it meets current security and compliance requirements.
