Introduction¶
In the plugin ecosystem of DeepSeek Harness (DSH), building roleplay or companion features often faces problems such as bloated architectures or high invasiveness. Existing solutions commonly rely on standalone frontend applications or fragile static prompt injection. dsh-character-studio provides a native and lightweight alternative. As a client plugin for DeepSeek Harness, it uses the Cordis framework to build a non-invasive architecture and unifies character card management with the Hindsight graph memory engine, turning DSH into a lightweight, persistent roleplay runtime.
Core Features¶
The plugin mainly includes the following capabilities:
- Native lightweight architecture: a Cordis-based native plugin that integrates non-invasively without breaking the existing DSH process structure.
- Multi-format character card support: compatible with native Markdown character cards (including a three-part structure) and SillyTavern V2 JSON format.
- Hindsight graph memory engine: leverages Hindsight’s graph memory capabilities, combined with temporal reasoning, to improve the depth of long-term memory.
- Character-specific memory isolation: automatically creates an independent memory bank for each character (such as
rp_<character>) to prevent memory leakage between characters. - DeepSeek Persona immersive monologue: supports DeepSeek’s official
personaimmersive monologue mode to strengthen a character’s first-person psychological analysis and conversational expression. - Directive control: provides slash commands and OOC (Out-Of-Character) directives for quickly switching characters and issuing out-of-character control instructions.
Installation and Enablement¶
Before installing, make sure your DeepSeek Harness version meets the requirements and that the Hindsight REST API service is running.
- Check environment dependencies:
- DeepSeek Harness >= 0.1.1-rc.2
- Hindsight REST API service is running
- Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-character-studio
To run in headless mode, you can use the --profile headless parameter.
Typical Usage¶
After installation, you can use the following commands:
- List characters: view the list of currently loaded character cards.
/rp list
- Switch character: immediately activate the specified character persona.
/rp use <name>
- View status: check the current memory bank state and Hindsight connection health.
/rp status
- OOC directive: send an out-of-character control directive or narration.
/ooc <directive>
Configuration Options¶
The plugin supports the following configuration options (usually set in the DSH configuration file):
cardsPath: root directory for character cards; defaults to~/.dsh/cards.defaultCard: name of the character card to activate by default; leave empty to activate none.hindsightEndpoint: Hindsight REST API address; defaults tohttp://localhost:8888.hindsightToken: Hindsight Bearer Token (optional).bankPrefix: memory bank prefix; defaults torp_.recallCacheTtlMs: memory recall cache TTL (milliseconds); defaults to 60000ms.enableDeepSeekImmersivePrompt: whether to enable DeepSeek immersive monologue rules; defaults totrue.enableTavernFormatting: whether to enable roleplay formatting rules; defaults totrue.
Use Cases and Notes¶
This plugin is suitable for developers and users who need long-term, stable roleplay scenarios with strong memory isolation. Because the plugin runs with the current DSH process permissions, carefully review the source code and the MIT license before installing.
Conclusion¶
dsh-character-studio combines native pluginization with Hindsight to address issues in traditional solutions, such as poor memory isolation and complex formatting. It provides DSH users with a lightweight, elegant, and persistent roleplay solution.
