Introduction¶
The Web profile of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses SVG icons as leading glyphs when displaying tool-call cards. The dsh-tool-emoji plugin injects styles to replace these SVG icons with emojis, while preserving all of the original card content (title, summary, terminal output, etc.) and without changing DSH’s existing logic.
Plugin Overview¶
This plugin is maintained by LWLAymh and is licensed under the MIT License. It does not register tool.call.toolview; instead, it only injects a global stylesheet that hides the built-in SVG icons via CSS and renders emojis in the same position.
Core Features¶
- Icon replacement: Replaces the leading icon with an emoji based on the tool type.
- Content preservation: Does not remove or replace the original card content.
- Error state: When a tool fails, the leading icon displays 😫.
- Custom configuration: Supports customizing emojis or uploading images (PNG/JPEG/GIF/WebP/BMP) as icons in the DSH settings page.
- Compatibility: Supports
dsh-edit-guardiancompatibility.
Installation and Enablement¶
- Run the installation command:
dsh plugin --profile web add git+https://github.com/LWLAymh/dsh-tool-emoji.git
- Restart the Web profile to apply the changes:
dsh --profile web
The plugin does not support hot reload; the process must be restarted after installation.
Typical Usage¶
- Open the Tool emoji panel on the DSH settings page.
- Use individual toggles to control icon display for specific tools, or use the main toggle to enable/disable the entire plugin.
- Enter any emoji or text in the custom input field.
- Upload a local image as an icon (note: images are stored only in
localStorage, limited to 1MB each, and SVG is not supported). - Use the Reset button to restore the default emojis.
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Scope: Applies only to the Web profile. The TUI and headless profiles do not have an icon UI surface, so the plugin effect cannot be displayed.
- Dependencies: The plugin depends on the official DOM structure (such as the
data-toolanddata-variantattributes). If a future DSH version changes these structures, the CSS selectors may stop working. - Compatibility details: If using
dsh-edit-guardian, ensure that a build exposing thedata-toolattribute is used; otherwise, the emoji will not apply to lines such aseditorpwsh.
Conclusion¶
dsh-tool-emoji provides a lightweight way to customize the visual experience, suitable for developers who want to adjust how DSH tool cards are displayed without modifying code.
