DeepSeek Harness (DSH) has a core design philosophy: “everything is a plugin.” In development or daily use, monitoring RSS feeds to stay up to date is a common need. dsh-rss-monitor is a native plugin that gives DSH multi-source subscription, keyword filtering, scheduled checking with deduplication, and email notifications for new entries. It is also integrated through the native settings page, providing a four-tab bilingual Chinese/English experience.

Core Features

This plugin focuses on the practicality and security of subscription management. Its capabilities include:

  • Multi-source subscription: Supports RSS 2.0 and Atom formats.
  • Keyword filtering: Each source can independently configure “include” or “exclude” keywords (matched against titles and summaries), with multiple keywords separated by commas.
  • Scheduled checking: Check interval can be adjusted from 1–1440 minutes, with a default of 5 minutes; supports a top toggle to start or stop monitoring.
  • Smart deduplication: Uses the first 16 characters of md5(feedUrl\|guid\|\|link\|\|title) as a stable ID, combined with a circular window that records the previous 1000 entries.
  • Email notifications: Supports SMTP (SSL 465), email content as an HTML template (with thumbnails), and an exponential backoff retry mechanism.
  • Native settings page: Injects into the DSH settings interface via slots, including Overview, RSS Sources, Email Notifications, and Runtime Settings tabs, with Chinese/English bilingual support.
  • Overview panel: Displays runtime status, last/next check time, latest discovered entries (with thumbnails), and check history in real time.
  • Adjustable display count: Both latest discoveries and check history can be configured to display 1–100 rows.
  • Automatic refresh: The settings page fetches status every 15 seconds and does not re-render when data is unchanged.
  • Credential security: The SMTP password is stored only in the DSH credential store (DSH_RSS_SMTP_PASS_*); configuration files store only a reference, and no plaintext is written to disk.
  • Time window: Supports schedule-based checking by weekday plus time period, executing monitoring and notifications only within the configured window.

Installation and Activation

When installing for DSH Desktop, you must use the exact version (such as @0.2.10) and the --save-exact flag; otherwise the installation is silently skipped. Before installing via the CLI, fully exit DSH Desktop.

dsh plugin --profile desktop add -wE "dsh-rss-monitor@0.2.10"

After installation, ensure that the Desktop profile’s package.json uses UTF8NoBOM encoding; otherwise DSH may fail to start. After starting DSH, find “RSS Monitor” in Settings and enable it.

Typical Usage

  1. Add an RSS source: Open the RSS Sources tab, click “Add RSS Source,” enter the name and URL, configure include/exclude keywords, click “Test Connection” to confirm availability, and save.
  2. Configure email notifications: Open the Email Notifications tab, enter the SMTP host, port, account, password (an authorization code is required), and recipient, then save and click “Send Test Email” to verify.
  3. Adjust runtime settings: Open the Runtime Settings tab, change the check interval (default 5 minutes) and display count (1–100 rows), and use the top toggle to start or stop monitoring.
  4. View the overview: Open the Overview tab to check runtime status, the latest discovered entries, and check history. One-click clearing of records is supported.
  5. Set a time window: In Runtime Settings, select weekdays, set the start/end time, and enable automatic checking within the window.

Notes

  • Host version requirement: v0.2.9+ requires the host version dsh >= 0.1.2-rc.1.
  • Cross-midnight handling: The time window supports cross-midnight scenarios (such as 22:00-06:00), and the system handles them automatically and correctly.
  • Permissions: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process.

Summary

By integrating through the native settings page, dsh-rss-monitor addresses the RSS monitoring integration need in the DSH ecosystem. It provides a complete workflow from subscription management and content filtering to secure notifications, making it suitable for developers or users who need to automate information-feed monitoring.
