Introduction

The built-in sidebar in DeepSeek Harness supports file browsing. llm-wiki-sidebar extends it into a Wiki workbench, allowing you to browse and inspect Karpathy-style interconnected Markdown Wikis directly in the sidebar. It provides clickable [[wikilinks]], provenance links, and backlinks, and includes a built-in Wiki Lint tool and the llm-wiki agent skill.

Installation

Install the plugin via the official CLI, then restart DeepSeek Harness:

dsh plugin --profile web add "github:ApeInCodeMountain/llm-wiki-sidebar"

After installation, restart dsh --profile web and force-refresh the browser (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+R).

Core Features

1. Wiki Sidebar Tab

In the sidebar, the plugin registers a dedicated tab for managing Wiki content:
* Directory Structure: Paginated by entities, concepts, comparisons, and queries.
* Search and Filtering: Supports searching by slug, title, or tag.
* Quality Markers: Displays quality signals, such as conf: low or contested.
* Actions: Provides an “Open as file resource” one-click button, a “Refresh” button, and binds the page refresh shortcut to a product command.

2. Wiki Page Rendering

  • .md files inside the Wiki root directory are handled by the plugin’s resource tab type and rendered with markdown-it (supporting GFM tables, fenced code, blockquotes, lists, and images).
  • Files outside the Wiki root directory retain the product’s native document preview behavior.
  • Supports [[target]] and [[target|label]] formats, resolving links according to the Wiki map.
  • Unresolved links are rendered as strikethrough and show a tooltip.
  • Rendering happens at the source-text level and does not write links to disk; files remain unchanged.

4. Heading Anchors

  • [[page#section]] opens the page and scrolls to the specified heading.
  • [[#section]] jumps within the current page.
  • Matching rules accept heading text or slug (GitHub-style), and support Unicode, so Chinese headings also work.
  • Provenance markers (such as ^([Source](raw/...))) and any relative Markdown links are opened through the same resource path in the directory.
  • The bottom of each Wiki page displays a “🔗 Linked here (N)” bar, listing documents that link to this page.

7. Source / Preview Toggle

  • View the raw Markdown (including frontmatter) without leaving the sidebar.
  • Frontmatter fields are rendered as a compact chip line above the preview.

8. Lint Report

  • Provides 12 checks: broken links, orphan pages, index integrity, frontmatter validation, stale pages, contested markers, quality signals, SHA256 source drift, page size, tag taxonomy, and log rotation.
  • Check results are grouped by severity.
  • The CLI also provides the scripts/wiki_lint.py script to perform the same checks.

9. Multi-Wiki Management

  • The default Wiki is located at <workspace>/wiki.
  • The plugin automatically discovers sibling directories in the workspace that match the Wiki structure (for example, folders containing SCHEMA.md or index.md and an entities/ or raw/ directory), and displays a switcher in the tab title.
  • Page rendering follows the Wiki root that owns the file using longest prefix matching.
  • Additional root directories can be explicitly registered through the wikiRoots plugin configuration.

10. llm-wiki Skill

  • The plugin bundles the llm-wiki skill.
  • This skill is mounted through a separate dsh-skill-filesystem instance, ensuring the plugin and skill are installed and uninstalled as a unit.

Typical Usage

Initialize a Wiki

Tell the agent in the conversation: “Help me initialize a wiki in this workspace” or “create a wiki here”. The bundled llm-wiki skill creates a wiki/ directory containing SCHEMA.md, index.md, log.md, and a hierarchical directory structure, and automatically ingests source data.

Browse and Inspect

  1. Open the right sidebar and find the 📚 LLM Wiki tab.
  2. Browse the directory and use search to locate a page.
  3. Click a page to open it and view the rendered content, clickable [[wikilinks]], and backlinks at the bottom.
  4. Use Source to view the raw Markdown.

Multi-Wiki Scenarios

If you need to manage multiple knowledge bases in the same workspace, create a sibling Wiki directory (using a conventional name such as wiki-game/) and keep the same layered layout. The sidebar will automatically discover it, and the tab title will show a Wiki switcher. Each Wiki maintains an independent slug namespace; cross-Wiki references use relative .md links.

Notes

  • Version Requirement: Requires DeepSeek Harness version 0.1.7-rc.2 or higher, and the built-in right sidebar (@deepseek-ai/dsh-client-ui-sidebar-right) must be included.
  • Plugin Conflict: Third-party sidebar plugins are not required. You must remove the dsh-better-sidebar plugin because it conflicts with the built-in sidebar.
