Introduction¶
When developing DeepSeek Harness (DSH) agents in a Windows environment, long-running tasks often need to run in the background in WSL. After a task finishes, checking its status through a browser tab is not very intuitive. The dsh-wsl-notify plugin solves this problem by allowing the agent to display a notification directly on Windows after a task in WSL has completed.
Plugin Overview¶
dsh-wsl-notify is a utility plugin for DeepSeek Harness named win_notify. It is part of the dsh-wsl-kit suite. The plugin version is 0.1.1, and its main function is sending notifications from a WSL agent to the Windows system.
Core Features¶
- Windows MessageBox notification: Prompts using the native Windows message box by default.
- Toast fallback mechanism: If the MessageBox fails, it automatically falls back to a system tray balloon notification.
- Configurable parameters: Supports custom title, body content, notification mode, and timeout.
Installation and Enablement¶
Install the plugin using the DSH command line:
dsh plugin --profile web add github:173787247/dsh-wsl-notify
Configuration and Usage¶
After installation, you can set the following parameters in the configuration file:
- id: dsh-wsl-notify
name: dsh-wsl-notify
config:
timeoutMs: 30000
maxLen: 500
Default behavior:
- Title: DSH
- Body: Task finished.
Notification modes:
- messagebox: A blocking dialog that stays open until the user closes it.
- toast: A non-blocking balloon notification.
Use Cases and Notes¶
- Use case: Suitable for scenarios where tasks need to run in the background and you want to be informed immediately when they finish.
- Blocking behavior:
messageboxmode blocks the current process until the dialog is manually closed by the user. Do not use it for tasks that require long-running background processing. - Content safety: The message content should not contain sensitive information or keys.
- Model dependency: The plugin does not handle model configuration. Make sure the
deepseek-flashmodel ID is correctly configured in~/.dsh/settings.yamlbefore use.
Summary¶
dsh-wsl-notify is a lightweight tool that connects WSL task execution with Windows desktop feedback. For developers who are used to working on Windows but need to invoke the WSL environment, it can effectively reduce the need to check the terminal frequently.
