In the DeepSeek Harness (DSH) plugin ecosystem, network-enabled tools often need to handle complex API authentication and data presentation. dsh-github-mcp-hint is an auxiliary plugin focused on GitHub MCP interactions. It addresses the problems of developers lacking example references when using GitHub MCP and being unable to intuitively view public repository data.

This is a network-enabled tool plugin maintained by developer ZIye1208. It provides two core capabilities: first, it organizes GitHub MCP example usage into a panel, displays them randomly, and supports copying; second, it provides visualized statistics and conversation tools for public GitHub repository data.

Core Features

1. GitHub MCP Example Hint Panel

In DSH’s “Settings → Plugins,” dsh-github-mcp-hint appears as a sub-entry for GitHub MCP. The panel includes 30 built-in example usages, and 4 are displayed randomly each time. Users can click the example text to copy it directly to the clipboard, helping to quickly build queries.

2. Public Repository Statistics (Visualization)

Enter a GitHub username in the panel, and the plugin visualizes that user’s public repository statistics, including ⭐ stars, 🍴 forks, and programming languages used. Clicking the corresponding repository link navigates to the details page.

To avoid triggering GitHub API rate limits (403) when unauthenticated, the frontend adopts a local caching strategy: results are stored in localStorage, and repeated requests are avoided within 30 minutes. It also has a fault-tolerance mechanism: when network failures or 403 errors occur, it falls back to displaying cached data and provides a prompt.

3. Model Tools

The plugin provides two model tools for conversational invocation:
* gh_repo_stats: reads the GITHUB_TOKEN environment variable and retrieves stars, forks, and clone statistics for the past 14 days for all repositories in the current account (including private repositories). It fetches clone statistics concurrently, lists at most the top 30, and avoids triggering rate limits.
* gh_current_user: returns the GitHub account (login) associated with the current token, used to verify the current login status in conversation.

Installation and Enablement

This plugin depends on the host having GitHub MCP connected (requires configuring GITHUB_TOKEN and adding the related configuration in cordis.patch.yml). After ensuring the prerequisites are met, run the following command to install:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-github-mcp-hint

After installation, the plugin does not automatically appear in the plugin list. It must be installed explicitly; only then does it appear as a sub-feature of GitHub MCP under the “Settings → Plugins → GitHub MCP” entry.

Typical Usage

  1. View statistics: In the GitHub MCP panel on the Settings page, enter the target username to view the stars, forks, and language distribution of public repositories.
  2. Query in conversation: Directly ask in the conversation, “How many stars and downloads do my repositories have?” The model calls the gh_repo_stats tool to return detailed data.
  3. Verify account: Ask in the conversation, “Who is the current GitHub account?” The model calls the gh_current_user tool to return account information.
  4. Copy examples: Click example text in the panel to copy it to the clipboard.

Notes

  • Explicit installation: The plugin is carried only as a dependency of dsh-github-mcp. If only dsh-github-mcp is installed and the installation command above is not executed, the panel will not automatically appear.
  • Authentication and caching: Visualization of public data uses direct frontend API calls with local caching to reduce request frequency and avoid consuming GitHub unauthenticated quota; clone statistics data that requires authentication (such as for private repositories) is obtained through host-side tools.
  • Token configuration: When using the gh_repo_stats and gh_current_user tools, a valid GITHUB_TOKEN environment variable must be configured.
