Introduction¶
The core design philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When integrating xAI’s Grok Build model into Harness, manually maintaining configuration or token management can be cumbersome. Community developers maintained dsh-grok-provider to allow DSH to directly reuse the login state from the official Grok CLI, enabling dynamic model discovery and streaming inference.
What Is This¶
This is a community plugin with an MIT license, maintained by yoshino-xiao7. It acts as a Build Provider for DeepSeek Harness and provides official CLI browser OAuth login, dynamic model discovery, streaming inference, image input (requires grok-4.6), tool calling, and an account quota panel.
Prerequisites¶
Before using it, ensure the following environment requirements are met:
- DeepSeek Harness version
0.1.5-rc.2 - Node.js
24.19.0or higher - Install the official Grok Build CLI (supports
login --oauthand uses the default directory~/.grok)
Installation and Enablement¶
Run the following commands in a terminal to install the exact version 1.0.6 and start the Web interface:
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-grok-provider@1.0.6
dsh web
Login Flow¶
After starting the Web interface, go to Settings -> Grok Build. Click “Login via browser.” The plugin will call the official CLI to generate a login URL and open it in the browser. Once OAuth authorization is completed, the login process is finished. The plugin does not take over the login page, nor does it require pasting an access token or refresh token.
Core Features¶
- Dynamic model discovery: Reads all Grok Build models visible to the account at runtime, without maintaining a static whitelist.
- Streaming inference: Supports Responses streaming text, reasoning, and usage statistics.
- Image input: Supported only by
grok-4.6, with support for JPEG/PNG/WebP. Transparent WebP images are automatically converted to PNG or JPEG before sending, while opaque WebP images are converted to JPEG. - Search and tools: Web/X Search is disabled by default and must be enabled in settings. Tool calls are delegated back to the Harness permission layer.
- Account panel: Displays login status, weekly/monthly quota, reset time, and model capabilities.
TUI Usage¶
Use the following commands in the TUI to operate:
/grok status
/grok login
/grok cancel
/grok logout
Notes¶
This is an unofficial community project and is not affiliated with xAI or the official DeepSeek Harness project. The plugin only supports the official default ~/.grok directory. Dependencies include @deepseek-ai/cordis 4.0.2 and others.
Use Cases¶
Suitable for developers who need to manage Grok Build accounts and model capabilities within Harness. The project is available on GitHub.
