Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) emphasizes plugin-based extensibility. In the development and use of geographic information systems, enabling large models to interact directly with map data is a common requirement. As a WebGIS plugin, dsh-webgis embeds a complete GIS workspace into AI conversations. It allows the model to load map data, understand maps, manipulate layers, and run spatial analyses through dialogue.

Plugin Overview

Name: dsh-webgis
Owner: Frank Wang
Purpose: A WebGIS plugin designed to enable LLMs to truly “see” the geographic world.
License: MIT

Core Features

This plugin primarily provides the following capabilities:
1. Map reading and manipulation: The model can load map data and understand map content.
2. Data loading: Supports GeoJSON, CSV, Shapefile, and GDAL-readable vector formats.
3. Spatial analysis: Supports running spatial analysis and provides a spatial statistics toolkit (Gini coefficient, Shannon entropy, Getis-Ord Gi).
4.
Map export: Allows exporting vector features from the basemap.
5.
Measurement tools: Provides length measurement functionality.
6.
3D understanding*: Has 3D world understanding capabilities.

Installation and Enablement

Before installing, ensure that your DeepSeek Harness (DSH) version is 0.1.7 and that you are using the Web profile.

Install the plugin with the following command:

npx --yes @deepseek-ai/dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-webgis

This plugin requires support from the host webServer service. The official Desktop transport is not currently supported.

Typical Usage

After installing the plugin, you can perform the following operations through natural language in a conversation:
1. Load datasets: Upload or load GeoJSON, CSV, Shapefile, and GDAL-readable vector data.
2. Layer processing: Filter and spatially aggregate layers.
3. Statistical analysis: Calculate statistics such as the Gini coefficient and Moran’s I.
4. Export basemap data: Extract vector features from the basemap in the current view and generate new point, line, and polygon layers.

Notes

  1. Version requirement: DSH 0.1.7 is required. It has been adapted to three Harness API changes from earlier versions in 0.1.5, while versions prior to 0.1.7 are not compatible.
  2. Runtime environment: Supports the Web profile only. It must rely on the host webServer service and does not support Desktop transport.
  3. Dependency management: If you are using pnpm ≥ 10, the pnpm approve-builds step is not required.
  4. Style limitations: Empty style updates are rejected; some invalid style updates leave the layer unchanged.
  5. Data security: The plugin runs with the permissions of the current DSH process. It is recommended to review the source code and license before installing.

Summary

By integrating a GIS workspace into the conversational flow, dsh-webgis fills a gap in LLM-based geospatial analysis. It is a practical tool for developers who need to process geographic data in a conversational environment.
