Preface¶
When processing local documents with DeepSeek Harness (DSH), directly dragging in Office documents or compressed archives usually requires a specific “Enhanced Import” workflow. This plugin intercepts the read tool and, without modifying the official source code, integrates parsing for DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, CSV, and ZIP files into native drag-and-drop and paste operations.
Plugin Scope¶
This plugin is an external extension for DeepSeek Harness and is maintained by user aa2246740. It is routed through the official tools/execute interface, providing automatic structural directory, preview, and location information for supported document types while preserving native processing for images, text, and PDFs.
Core Features¶
- Document Type Support: Supports dragging files, folders, ZIP archives, and Office attachments (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX, CSV).
- Office Parsing Enhancement: When the Agent calls
read, it automatically obtains the structural directory, preview, and location information for Office files. - ZIP Processing Logic: For ZIP files, the directory is listed first, then text or code is read by entry path; nested archives are not automatically extracted.
- Caching Mechanism: The parsing cache is located at
$DSH_HOME/dragndrop-attachments/v1/native-cache.
Installation and Activation¶
After installation, wait for the current task to finish. Restart the Host or refresh the page for the changes to take effect.
Web UI¶
dsh plugin --profile web add github:aa2246740/dsh-dragndrop-attachments
Official Desktop / DSH Studio¶
Open Settings → Plugins → Add Plugin, and enter the following in “Package Name or Address”:
github:aa2246740/dsh-dragndrop-attachments
You can also download the latest Release .tgz file and enter its absolute path.
Usage¶
- Normal Operations: Drag, paste, or use the native attachment button as usual. Existing native drag-and-drop is not globally intercepted.
- Office Files: When the Agent calls
read, enhanced information is automatically provided, supporting on-demand reading of tables, slides, or document sections. - ZIP Files: The plugin first lists the directory structure, then reads content by path, without occupying workspace space.
- Folder Handling:
- Desktop: Dragging in a folder preserves native local path references.
- Web UI: Dragging in a folder automatically saves a snapshot, or you can manually add a folder snapshot via the+menu.
Use Cases and Limitations¶
- Platform Limitations: Office parsing is only guaranteed on the macOS Apple Silicon platform using OfficeCLI 1.0.144.
- Feature Scope: It does not support older DOC/XLS/PPT formats, OCR, formula recalculation, or complex chart visual understanding. PDF and image capabilities are provided by official DSH.
- File Size: Individual enhanced read files are limited to 50 MiB, and extracted ZIPs are limited to 256 MiB. Large files require segmented queries.
- Permissions and Data: The plugin reads through the file system of the current session and preserves permissions; result line numbers are parsed line numbers, not file editing line numbers. The parsing cache is located at
$DSH_HOME/dragndrop-attachments/v1/native-cache; uninstalling does not actively delete historical data.
Summary¶
This plugin provides DSH with capabilities to enhance the document reading experience without manual configuration. By preserving native interaction methods and the caching mechanism, it improves document processing efficiency while maintaining system stability and compatibility.
