Preface

In DeepSeek Harness (DSH), agents are responsible for handling tasks, but without structured workflows, task states can easily become chaotic. The dsh-kanban-flow plugin provides a kanban-based interface that enforces a collaboration workflow between humans and agents. It maps each workspace to a kanban board and each task to an independent agent session, ensuring that task transitions are traceable and controlled.

What Is This

dsh-kanban-flow is an Agent-driven kanban plugin, designed specifically for DeepSeek Harness.

  • Core positioning: one kanban per workspace, one Agent session per task, and enforced human/Agent workflows.
  • Maintainer: thomasvvugt
  • License: MIT
  • Dependencies: based on the dsh-kanban plugin architecture and built for DSH 0.1.1-rc.2.

Core Features

Fixed Columns and Workflow Enforcement

The kanban columns are fixed, from left to right: Backlog → To Do → In Progress → Review → Done. The plugin uses the kanbanflow_move_item tool to intercept invalid moves and ensure that workflow rules are followed:

  1. Backlog → To Do: Only humans can move tasks into this column; this serves as the trigger point for Agent takeover.
  2. To Do → In Progress: Performed after the Agent confirms it will take over.
  3. In Progress → Review: The Agent completes the work and requests human review.
  4. Review → In Progress: After humans provide feedback in the task session, the Agent continues processing.
  5. Done → In Progress: Humans reply in a completed task to reopen it.
  6. In Progress → Done: Only when the “completion confirmation” option is disabled can the Agent complete it automatically; when enabled, humans must drag Review → Done.

Agent Toolset

The plugin provides the following tools for Agents to operate on the kanban:

  • kanbanflow_get: Get the kanban overview.
  • kanbanflow_get_item: Get information for a specific task.
  • kanbanflow_create_item: Create a new task.
  • kanbanflow_update_item: Update task content.
  • kanbanflow_move_item: Move a task (restricted by the workflow).
  • kanbanflow_delete_item: Delete a task (archive the session).
  • kanbanflow_set_status: Set task status (displayed in the card hover tooltip).
  • kanbanflow_set_code: Set the workspace code (2–6 characters).

Interface and Interaction

  • Local storage: data is stored in <workspace>/.dsh-kanban-flow.json, supports schema versioning, and automatically migrates data.
  • UI design: supports light/dark mode, uses DSH design tokens, and supports responsive layouts (horizontal on desktop, vertical on mobile).
  • Animations: includes transition animations for creation and movement, as well as a pulse effect when Agent changes occur.

Installation and Enablement

Run the following command in the terminal to install the plugin:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-kanban-flow

After installation, restart the dsh web service. Signs of successful installation are that the dsh-kanban-flow layer appears in the configuration output and a kanban icon appears next to each workspace in the sidebar.

Typical Usage

  1. Initialization: Ensure dsh web has been restarted, then click the kanban icon in the sidebar to enter the kanban for the corresponding workspace.
  2. Create a task: Create a new card in the Backlog column, either through the Agent tool kanbanflow_create_item or directly in the UI.
  3. Move a task: A human drags the card from Backlog to To Do.
  4. Agent work: The Agent starts working in the corresponding task session and sets a status description before moving the card to the Review column.
  5. Human review: A human reviews the result in the Review column. If approved, drag the card to Done; if changes are needed, reply in the session, and the card automatically returns to In Progress.

Use Cases and Notes

  • Use cases: suitable for teams that need strict control over task state transitions, or for scenarios where Agents handle specific tasks but humans need to control the quality of final delivery.
  • Notes:
    • The plugin has no installation scripts or build steps and is distributed directly via npm.
    • All data is stored in the local workspace directory and does not leave that directory.
    • The plugin uses an all-English interface.

Short Ending

By binding task states to Agent sessions, dsh-kanban-flow adds a controllable workflow layer to DSH. It does not change DSH’s core logic; instead, it supplements visualized task management capabilities through the plugin mechanism.
