Introduction

DeepSeek Harness (DSH) adopts a plugin-based architecture, and community developers often need to extend functionality for specific scenarios. dsh-context-badge is a local-first plugin focused on addressing context recording and task tracking in DSH sessions. It does not rely on remote synchronization or model calls; through browser local storage and an optional macOS companion app, it provides developers with lightweight state management capabilities.

Core Features

  1. UI Integration
Adds a small context badge to the DSH editor’s Dock bar.

  2. Local Storage
Uses browser localStorage to save notes and to-do items for each DSH session or workspace, with automatic version migration.

  3. Information Display
Displays the current DSH session name, workspace base name, conversation turns/steps, and a token summary (if available) in the badge.

  4. Context Management
Supports switching between “Session Context” and “Workspace Context”, viewing save status, clearing completed to-do items, and reviewing the 8 most recently updated contexts.

  5. Automatic Summary
Automatically retains the first 5 loaded user or bootstrap messages for each session and derives a local usage line from them, without calling a model or performing remote synchronization.

  6. macOS Companion App
Provides an optional menu bar/always-on-top app that only tracks the foreground application name and window title, and records the 8 most recent foreground contexts.

Installation and Enablement

Run the following command in the root directory of the plugin repository to install it:

dsh plugin add ./

For local development configuration, you can link it by editing DSH’s plugin configuration file, then restart the DSH web service. The plugin’s Bundle ID is dsh-context-badge.

Usage Example

After installation, the plugin automatically becomes active in the DSH interface. If you want to use the macOS companion app, make sure your system environment meets the requirements (macOS 13+ and Swift 5.9+).

Run the companion app:

npm run run:macos

Install the companion app for automatic startup:

npm run install:macos

Notes

  • Data Isolation: The plugin does not involve screenshots, keylogging, network requests, model calls, or remote synchronization; all data is stored locally.
  • Companion App Storage Path: macOS companion app data is stored in ~/Library/Application Support/ContextBadge/contexts.json.
  • Privacy Settings: On first run of the companion app, you may need to allow it to observe window metadata in macOS Privacy Settings. If it cannot retrieve the title, the app can still use the foreground application name.
  • Feature Boundaries: This plugin is a standalone context tool and does not change DeepSeek Harness’s model routing, prompts, permissions, billing, or agent presets.

Summary

This plugin provides DSH users with a context management solution that requires no internet connection and does not consume model tokens. It is suitable for scenarios where users need to switch workspaces frequently or manage multi-turn conversation tasks. For more details, see the Plugin Directory Page or the GitHub Repository.
