During the development of DeepSeek Harness Web, long conversations often lead to lengthy context, making it cumbersome to quickly locate user-entered instructions. To address this issue, the community has developed a navigation assistant tool. Below is an introduction to DSH User Message Minimap, which makes locating instructions simple by displaying a user message navigation track on the left side of the conversation.

Plugin Overview

DSH User Message Minimap (User Message Track) is a Web client plugin that can be installed and uninstalled at any time. It displays a compact navigation track on the left side of long conversations, mapping the positions of user messages, so developers can quickly identify the current turn and jump back to previous instructions.

Core Features

  • Track Display: When a conversation contains at least 4 user messages, the navigation track is displayed on the left.
  • Marker Mapping: Each user message corresponds to one marker, ordered consistently with the conversation content.
  • Interactive Navigation: Click a marker or use keyboard navigation to jump to the corresponding user message.
  • Smart Scrolling:
    • Short-distance smooth scrolling is used when the distance is no more than 5 messages.
    • For longer distances and dragging along the track, immediate positioning is maintained.
  • Highlighting and Motion: Upon reaching the target, the message is highlighted using the current DSH theme color, and the system’s “reduce motion” setting is respected.
  • Continuous Browsing: Dragging the track allows continuous browsing through a long conversation.

Installation and Enablement

Use the following commands to install the plugin into the DSH Web profile, then start the Web client:

dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-user-message-navigation
dsh web

If the profile you are using is not web, replace web in the commands with the actual profile name.

How to Use

  1. Open a Chat conversation that contains at least 4 user messages.
  2. Find the vertical message markers on the left side of the conversation.
  3. Hover over a marker to view a text preview of the corresponding message.
  4. Click a marker to navigate to it; you can also drag along the navigation track to continuously browse different turns.

Notes and Compatibility

  • Dependency on Implementation Details: The plugin relies on existing DOM attributes (data-chat-flow, data-chat-flow-kind, data-chat-anchor-key, data-conversation-scroll). These are implementation details of DSH Web, not stable third-party plugin interfaces.
  • Version Compatibility: The plugin currently targets DeepSeek Harness 0.1.1-rc.2.
  • Troubleshooting: If, after upgrading DSH, the navigation track no longer appears or cannot locate messages, disable the plugin first.
