Introduction¶
DeepSeek Harness (DSH) uses an “everything-is-a-plugin” architecture. For developers who spend long periods working on the desktop, UI customization and resource-consumption visibility are key to improving efficiency. To address this need, the following section introduces the TypeScript plugin dsh-skin-token-dashboard, maintained by Smith-yue. This plugin does not rely on external networks and focuses on providing local desktop skin switching and Token usage statistics based on the official session projection.
Plugin Overview¶
This is a TypeScript plugin project for DeepSeek Harness Desktop/Web. It mainly addresses two problems:
1. Desktop appearance customization: Provides two switchable desktop skins (Deep Sea Night Voyage and Warm Paper Daylight), and supports local image slideshow.
2. Token tracking: Reads data through the official tokenUsage session projection and provides a detailed Token statistics panel.

Installation and Enablement¶
Before installing, make sure the environment meets the following condition:
* Node.js version ^22.19.0 || >=24.0.0
Use the official CLI to install the plugin into the Web profile:
npx -y @deepseek-ai/dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-skin-token-dashboard
After installation, you must fully quit and reopen DSH Desktop before the new features appear in the UI. You can also search for dsh-skin-token-dashboard in the DSH Desktop plugin marketplace to achieve the same result. After enabling it, go to “Settings → General → Desktop Skins” to switch themes.
Core Features¶
Desktop Skins and Background¶
The plugin includes two complete skins (Deep Sea Night Voyage dark, Warm Paper Daylight light) and retains the native Harness chat statistics bar. Backgrounds support the following settings:
* Built-in backgrounds: Five photographic backgrounds are shipped with the package.
* Local slideshow: Recursively scans local subfolders for images (supports AVIF, BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, WebP; up to 2000 images).
* Control options: The slideshow interval can be set from 1 to 1440 minutes, and you can pause, resume, or immediately advance to the next image.
* Custom overrides: Supports custom CSS background color, image opacity, and background color/gradient overlay opacity. All settings (skin, colors, folder path, slideshow parameters) are automatically restored after restart.
Token Usage Statistics¶
The plugin provides a detailed panel under “Settings → Token Usage” that displays real-time aggregate data for the current session:
* Session total
* Billed input
* Output
* Cache hit rate
* Four Token components (uncached input, cache read, cache write, output)
These data are read from the official tokenUsage session projection, do not depend on additional statistics databases, and do not copy message content.
API Usage¶
The plugin registers the ctx.skinTokenUsage service on the Host side. Developers can read and print Token statistics with the following TypeScript code:
const usage = ctx.skinTokenUsage.read(session)
if (usage) {
console.log(usage.billedInputTokens)
console.log(usage.outputTokens)
console.log(usage.totalTokens)
console.log(usage.cacheHitRate)
}
The read() method performs a synchronous, consistent read and returns only aggregate counts; it does not return raw prompts, responses, or tool content.
Privacy and Security¶
The plugin is conservative in its privacy design:
* No network requests are initiated: All data reads are performed locally.
* Session content is not saved: The plugin does not copy message content; Token data is read only from Harness’s existing persistent session projection.
* File access restrictions: The Host file-reading RPC accepts only local loopback connections and reads only directories that have been authorized and saved by the native selector; it rejects path traversal and symbolic-link traversal.
* Data persistence: Skin preferences and the user-selected local background folder path are written to $DSH_HOME/settings.yaml; image content itself is not copied into settings or a database.
Applicable Scenarios¶
This plugin is suitable for developers or users who need to finely manage the DeepSeek Harness desktop experience. If you want to customize your workspace background and also need a clear view of Token breakdown data such as context compression and cache hits, this plugin provides a lightweight solution that does not require additional data collection.
