Introduction¶
The core philosophy of DeepSeek Harness (DSH) is “everything is a plugin.” When developing agents or configuring multi-task workflows, developers often need to handle parallel tasks, background tasks, or waits for human intervention. Keeping an eye on the page at all times can easily lead to missed critical state changes. The dsh-chime-alerts plugin is designed to address this issue by using sound alerts to notify users when Agent workflow events occur at specific moments.
This plugin is maintained by nienieai and follows the MIT License. It does not rely on external audio files, uses browser-synthesized royalty-free sounds by default, and provides cross-platform system beep support.
Core Features¶
The plugin supports audio control for ten distinct event types, and each event type can have its own toggle, sound, and volume settings.
- Event Types: Supports task completion, subtask completion, background task completion, authorization required, plugin authorization, Agent questions, plan review, goal blocked, other interruptions, and background task failure.
- Hybrid Audio: Provides web chimes (Web Audio synthesized tones) and host beeps (system sounds), each controlled independently.
- Workspace Muting: A mute button is available next to each workspace in the sidebar, allowing independent muting per workspace.
- Cross-Platform System Sounds: Host beeps support Windows WAV, Linux freedesktop themed sounds, and macOS afplay.
- Sound Customization: Supports built-in sound effects or uploaded custom audio (dynamic version ≤5MB, static version ≤3MB).
- Test Coverage: Includes 247 automated test assertions.
Installation and Activation¶
Install it using the official CLI.
dsh plugin --profile web add dsh-chime-alerts
After installation, restart DSH and reopen the web tab to apply the changes.
Typical Usage¶
- Open the DSH settings page and go to “Sound Alerts”.
- Enable the master toggle.
- Configure sounds or volumes for different task types.
- Click the speaker icon in the workspace sidebar to quickly mute all alerts for that workspace.
- If using a static installation, you can check the version number at the bottom of the settings page to confirm the loading status.
Use Cases and Notes¶
This plugin is suitable for developers who need to monitor multiple task states simultaneously or run background tasks for extended periods.
Keep the following in mind:
* Permissions and Dependencies: The plugin only covers events observable by the host within the current DSH process. It relies on DSH internal contracts (event names and parameter signatures), not public APIs, so DSH upgrades may change behavior.
* Browser Dependency: Browser audio requires the page to be open. If the page is closed and host beeps are not enabled, no sound will play.
* Platform Testing: Branching code for Linux and macOS has been implemented and passed Node simulation tests, but has not been tested on real machines yet.
* UI Adaptation: The settings page navigation icon and workspace mute button depend on specific shell DOM structures (CSS hacks / fixed-position injection), so shell redesigns require synchronized adaptation. The inline workspace mute button has not been verified in real browsers and may not appear.
Conclusion¶
dsh-chime-alerts provides a lightweight auditory feedback mechanism that helps developers focus on core business logic through independent sound configuration. For more details, see the GitHub repository or the community catalog.
